Commonly used house music accappella, can anyone ID?

It's on Frankie Bones live at factory 101 mix at one point and I've also heard it booted with a tougher version of French Kiss by Lil Louis.

Basically it's a gospel style speech which runs similar to this maybe not exactly "this is the house that jack built, cos jack had a name.........(loads of other shit like this and then a kind of chorus) it's our house music, our house music, our house music, our house music".

It's really dramatic and he really hits the "our". Er.......Siegbran, Gareth, Michael, Steve, anyone else know????? I'll buy you a big gold clock.

it's Tracie, produced by Paul Weller!

I knew what you're were talking about from the thread title alone.
Living in Chicago, I've heard this in countless mixes--live and on tape.
I think it may be from a Larry Heard record

"In the beginning, there was Jack. And Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared, "Let there be House!" And House music was born. I am, you see. I am the creator. And this is my House. And in my House there is only House music. But I am not so selfish, because once you've entered my House, it then becomes our House, and our House music. And you see, no one man owns House, because house music is a universal language spoke and understood by all. You see, House is a feeling, that no one can understand really, unless you're deep into the vibe of House. House is an uncontrollable desire to Jack your body. And as I told ya before, this is our house, and our House music. And in every house you understand, there is a keeper. And in this house the keeper is Jack. Now some of you might wonder, "who is Jack and what is it that Jack does?" Jack is the one who gives you the power to Jack your body. Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake. Jack is the one who gives you the key to the wiggly worm. Jack is the one who learns you how to walk your body. Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all Jackers together under one house. You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew, or Gentile. It don't make a difference in our house. And this is fresh!!!"

Thank you! I will seek it out.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 February 2003 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan if you're looking for "The House That Jack Built" it's by Tracie, (and it's been put over "French Kiss"), but "Can You Feel It" is very good too!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 14 February 2003 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i always wanted the key to the wiggly worm but jack never came through for me.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 14 February 2003 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Great song! Let's all listen to it now! (She says trying to ingratiate herself by posting to some of Ronan's dance threads.)

I even asked 2 ILXers to come out with me tonight for the annual Presidents Day Dance Fest, featuring Yoko Ono and whoever that guy is who remixed her once -- ha ha ha. It was gonna be like the Gilmore Girls Dance marathon. Sadly, they declined.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 17 February 2003 01:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Jan

The vocals on that "In the beginning..." were from Chuck Jackson I believe

By the way I think your website is excellent (jahsonic)

white, Monday, 17 February 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Jan Geerinck (jahsonic), Monday, 17 February 2003 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Could it have been Chuck Roberts?

Jan Geerinck (jahsonic), Monday, 17 February 2003 23:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, it was Chuck Roberts. (A DJ named Steve Jackson did a radio show called "The House that Jack Built" back in the 80s that was a big influence on the house scene, maybe that's where "Chuck Jackson" came from).

You can find this as an acapella on Soulseek called "House that Jack Built," I downloaded it the other day.

Also get the Robert Owens double CD that came out last year and is totally awesome (and includes the vocal version of "Can You Feel It" that features Owens instead of Roberts and is even better).

Ronan, your yoko-hating words hurt me. I hereby reinstate my boycott of your dance music threads.

War is over
(if you want it)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 06:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was only talking about that hyped up remix from a few months ago which I am willing to bet was crap. I am sorry so so sorry.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

No worries Ronan: we both know that I have nothing to contribute to your dance threads besides playful banter :)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

It beats awkward silence any day!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

really glad that a cappella was ID'ed here--love it and have heard it in lots and lots of places; works a charm over just about any good house track. (plus it's gotta be one of the 1001 greatest singles evah all by itself!) (I said that to annoy Ben)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

It is good to finally get the story on it! I always enjoyed it but wondered where the heck it was from. I did enjoy the sampling of it briefly on "Beers Steers and Queers," but I would.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)
