Hey Petrunko flumped into the office the other day... Liverpool's favourit hyperactive six-year-olds-trapped-inside-the-bodies-of-twentysomethings have gone prog. And their lyrics are still shite. Yet for this, I love them even more.

Crikey.

they're still going????

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 15 February 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, just took them about three years to sort their second album out.

"Bluebell Morning" is the best indie-pop single of 2002.

Hey Petrunko would be genius (it sounds like the endtitles theme music from The Raccoons! some of it!) if Ooberman weren't so nauseatingly unbelievably shite. they still just sound like theyre chasing Belle & Sebs 1998 Brit award. corporate twee.

actually the album that Hey Petrunko reminds me of most is 'Six'. i swear it's like 1999 never happened.

surely they're from Leeds though? not Liverpool..

i've just remembered there's a really funny monologue narrated in wistful Northern indieboy tones about an astronaut stepping out into space and feeling so alone but finally feeling home on it.. it makes me giggle.

they;re from liverpool i think. well, they're certainly not from leeds, i know that much

the shorley wall ep is great, the title track especially. i eagerly awaited the debut album, but jim's above comment sums up my thoughts on the tracks i did hear. they still have time to win me back though. i suspect that they would be much too twee for a lot of people, but twee has never been a big problem for me...

two years pass...
Several years later, I finally get around to hearing The Magic Treehouse. Some of it's quite good.

Hey Petrunko... isn't.

I loved the Magic Treehouse around the time it came out. I listened to it again a couple of months ago, and it's not as good as I remembered it. Some great quirky songs on there though.

The Magic Treehouse was a disappointment for me, I bought it 2 years ago but only managed to listen twice or so. Their singles showed much more promise.

really really bad.
