Are they now? Were they in the 80s? the 90s? Was "Behaviour" more indie than "Please"?

Axl Rose liked them

no guitars = not 'indie'

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

so domino dancing might be indie?

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

nah, its just sophisto-pop

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

might as well be since indie was a load of shit.

No, never were. Vast ambition, a pulsing pop heart and they never played the Camden Monarch.

Were the Pet Shop Boys skiffle?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

...they couild be classed as 'indie' now as they're on the Sanctuary label - home to people like Alison Moyet and... err... Iron Maiden.

Also, there was much use of guitars on 'Release' and for the accompanying short university tour they played in Britain last year.

But before? Never.

Far too smooth, classy and shiny for indie.

I think it's about time they got their Brits life achievement award, actually, along with Depeche Mode.... amazing that neither have been recognised at these awards.

yes, I'm hoping they get every award going. then ppl might actually stop doing them.

no, but a tip for synth pop fans - watch out for a new band, Vic 20 - superb synth pop - catchy melodies with an infectious synth/keyboard sound - definately for fans of PSB, early depeche mode, Yazoo, Soft Cell and Ladytron. At the moment Vic 20 are unsigned according to John Kennedy on Xfm [they performed with Ladytron recently] if i were A & R scout I would snap them up.

If you want synth pop on an independent label - watch out for the debut album from Patrick Wolf, Lycanthropy in the spring on Capitol K's label Faith & Industry.

DJ M - I saw Vic20 last year, and they were the most comically inept band I have seen in many years. Like Chumbawumba... but with kilts.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

there music comes across well on the radio (Xfm and Radio Magnetic) - i reckon with the right backing they have gulp top 40 potential.

This is a question that troubles me every time I list one of their records on eBay. I always plump for the eBay category 'pop' in the end but I feel that's too vague (eBay music categories are a mess).

Neil Tennant is indie. Chris Lowe isn't.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 20 February 2003 09:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Alfred Hitchcock to thread!

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 20 February 2003 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris Lowe is hip hop :)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Proven by science then: PSBs were the original indie-dance crossover act!

("indie" depeche mode suck ass, u r all gay)

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

What about New Order, dumbo?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

All of New Order were indie.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Err.. Cabaret Voltaire?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)
