Any thoughts on this KShields/DHolmes produced album?

Tim D (Tim D), Saturday, 22 February 2003 00:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently not. As it is, I've never heard of it until now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 February 2003 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Emma wants it and it's vanished off the face of the fucking earth. The amazon entry for it has gone.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 22 February 2003 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

the first one wasn't so hot, is this one an improvement? they're almost equivalent to 'it's jo and danny' hype doesn't match the music.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 22 February 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

The first two singles are totally ace, haven't heard the full length. Been v impressed with 13Amp so far

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 23 February 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

On the message board at joyzipper.tv, Tabitha said there have been a few record company problems but it should be out soon. Hope so; I've been playing the instrumenal version of "Dosed & Became Invisible" so much lately and really want to hear the vocal version.

Matthew (faster), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

there's a joy zipper track on the free cd given away w/ jockey slut this month. holmes is mentioned in the credits but shields isn't. it's called alzheimers and is amusing in a cassetteboy kind of a way but is obviously more of a song.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 24 February 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

They sound like Butterglory. And some other band I can't pinpoint right now.

three months pass...
did this album ever end up coming out properly? i got a copy of slsk and it's genuinely fantastic, would be a crying shame if it gets indefinitely delayed.

i don't know how big Shields' contribution to the album actually was - the production credits for the two singles only mention Holmes.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 6 June 2003 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I really liked the first album especially that "our death is inevitable..." song

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 June 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

great song. i felt that most of the debut wasn't quite up to the standard of that track though..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 6 June 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

very true, except I also remember like the "my new Jesus" track

that first track has a great summery vibe - but the lyric is a bummer - albeit a fun and ironic one.

oh, I do like this album.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"gun control" is a fantastic single, don't know why it's not on the album

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

when I was in rough trade last november one of the guys from this band came in to buy something and talked with the guys at the counter, which is where I first heard of them. from the tone of the conversation, it seems that they were completely resigned to being completely ignored forever (they had just played a gig which was underattended, apparently). after he left the guy who worked there remarked to someone else that they were the one of best bands in London. Is this true? I keep meaning to check them out but for some reason I always forget their name.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

surface - gun control is on the bands first album .. which has now reappeared in the shops as a 13 Amp release as opposed to the orig eye-q release. and having seem em live on friday twice i still reckon they are ace . and it wasn't under attended .. twas a sell out show - but as it was the louisiana in bristol that aint saying too much .. but i know that there were many many people still wanting tix.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 6 May 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

oh. i've got that album, surprised i didn't notice that.

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Thursday, 6 May 2004 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

it was hard to get past 'transformation fantasy' (still my fave JZ song)

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Thursday, 6 May 2004 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

doh. i am wrong. was confusing it with Check out my new jesus. ok heres another reason .. Gun Control was only for the Stereo/God ep whcih was mostly new stuff to get folks vibed for AW .. (ie basically I have no bloody idea what i'm talking about !) - still cracking songs .. all of them.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 6 May 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha Mark, you were in the basement of Fopp in Friday too? That was quite a funny afternoon - turned out I knew the drummer / maraca player from the band too. Small, small world!

Debord (Debord), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

this is being released in the U.S. on February 22. It's solid.

don weiner, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

don weiner, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i loved this album for like a week and then never returned to it. maybe I will do that now

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

you just made my day there! :)

Omar (Omar), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard a track from this the only time I ever watched The O.C.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

spencer ..was it a new track . or something off the american whip album ?
i was waiting for details on the new album .. so this news above is somewhat fanastic. i love AW and their first album. oh, and one listen of the album does not reveal its excellence, at first i wasn't sure what all fuss was about then little by little i fell under the spell of it.
hey, maybe its just the old school indie freak in me surfacing in these modern times ..

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It was "Baby You Should Know" and it was right at the beginning of an episode where the main male characters were grounded.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah .. found tabitha getting excited about it in her myspace area .. thats an oldie (but i still love it.. )

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW : the news has been confirmed. the new stuff is just about good to go.

excellent.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i loved this album for like a week and then never returned to it.

Take a look at the back of the album and rediscover the love.

Is Tabitha good looking in person or what? how are they live?

don weiner, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Out Of The Sun is an excellent song

mentalist (mentalist), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
revive.

the band are currently touring in the US (support Phoenix) as AW has at last been released stateside

but soon, they are to return to the UK to start promotion for the next album !

any one heard any of it yet ?

mark e (mark e), Monday, 18 April 2005 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

following my mention of JZ on the cults thread, i tried my luck and sent a message through to tabitha.
just heard back.
they have been making music.
apparently the whole record label chaos re american whip and upshift from small indie > major, just knocked them for six, and so its taken a while to recharge batteries etc.

mark e, Friday, 9 September 2011 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

That's great news! ('cause I love them more than a thousand christmases)

willem, Friday, 9 September 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

Although I did like the way they kind of appeared out of nowhere and then vanished for no apparent reason, I'll be happy to have another album. Still convinced that on some levels they're one of the weirder bands in recent memory, even if it's an unusual weirdness...

dlp9001, Saturday, 10 September 2011 00:49 (fourteen years ago)

cool

HRTX (electricsound), Saturday, 10 September 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

Bought this album after hearing 'Baby You Should Know', can't for the life of me remember where.

Colin Allstations (PaulTMA), Saturday, 10 September 2011 01:42 (fourteen years ago)

That's good news. I love this and The Heartlight Set (the debut slightly less). Such an underrated band.

Science, you guys. Science. (DL), Saturday, 10 September 2011 10:15 (fourteen years ago)

Listening to The Heartlight Set on Spotify. This is really great indie pop - the kind of album you want to listen to again immediately. Lovely.

thinveneer, Saturday, 10 September 2011 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

Mark E, thanks for pursuing this! :) Good news!

Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 10 September 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

indeed.

but as i have learnt many times over the years (see my love for on-u sound etc), i have realised that as often as certain artists talk re new material, it's all about the appearance of the final product in my hands/on my hard disc that counts ..

let the count down begin ..

mark e, Saturday, 10 September 2011 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

five months pass...

not sure I ever encountered this band til I heard their cover of "What Difference Does It Make?" on WFMU last week.
