Los Angeles Shakedown: more rock show horrors

I'm searchin' for one, but in brief...

This past week, there was this garage rock festival called "Shakedown" which, in brief, derailed in an ugly fashion. Allegedly, tickets were purposefully oversold... last minute venue changes. Broken restroom facilities. Bands travelling a long way to discover all this, then cancelling upon discovering the horror. Pissed off, ripped off rock n' rollers. Ugly ugly.

The Supersuckers and the Dwarves each wrote their own statements defending their choice to cancel. The former were more diplomatic and eloquent. The latter, while surprisingly eloquent as well, basically put the promoter's personal phone numbers on their statement and basically said "Tell this guy to eat shit and die".

Here was the program schedule. Given the promise of the Rezillos, I could have seen people flying out for this thing. Very sad.

I was supposed to dj (house music) at the garage that night for the weekly 'basic beats' When I got to the venue and saw the crowd gathered outside I had to do a double-take. All these rockabilly types lookin all pompadorable. Needless to say we got bumped and I had to go home without cracking my record bag :(. Looked like people there were having fun though.

Complete pigfuck. I heard all about this one from various folks and it was a total disaster. My favorite quote in regards to it was:

"It was a miserable time perpetrated by idiots who couldn't book their way into a men's room, which by the way, both bathrooms had NO LIGHTS making it pretty difficult to have a piss."
