The Who?

Joe (Joe), Sunday, 23 February 2003 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

No, the Cure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

status quo

stevie (stevie), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

you kidding? must be The Rolling Stones, no?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The Posies

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

have the stones ever really said they were going to break up?

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Clearly the Damned.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

" have the stones ever really said they were going to break up? "

dunno 'bout that (& it wasn't the original question either). but as much-or-little as my own memory can stretch back, which is approx. mid-70s, i recall reading again and again here and there how the tour they were about to do would be their 'last one'

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Clearly the Damned.

That was my other answer...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

KISS.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

the garth brooks

keith (keithmcl), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Kiss have only embarked on one farewell tour -- one that seems to go on indefinetly (the long goodbye?), but the Damned have sworn more times than I've had hot dinners that they were done. They make the Who look honest.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

The Lollies. HAH!!!

The answer is, every band ever says every tour is going to be their last. And then they get OFF tour and forget what it's like...

kate, Sunday, 23 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

the Clean?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

the Ramones are a contender, as is Ozzy "No More Tours 1992" Osbourne.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 February 2003 00:09 (twenty-three years ago)

it's The Cure. The Stones never say that, everyone else just hopes it.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 24 February 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cure, followed by Too Short

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 24 February 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Sham 69!

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 24 February 2003 00:35 (twenty-three years ago)

"the Ramones are a contender"

Wha? They *NEVER* claimed they'd stop touring until they did (and never toured again afterwards). This thread, as I understand it, is about bands that continually BREAK that promise -- and I maintain that the Damned is the only band that fits that bill.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, the Ramones last tour was long, but it wasn't a false last tour, unlike too many Cure and Damned tours and every Ozzy tour for the past ten years

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 24 February 2003 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Al! wow!

Yeah, the Posies, though in 20 years the answer will be Radiohead.

derrick (derrick), Monday, 24 February 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Another vote for The Cure.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:41 (twenty-three years ago)

It's absolutely The Cure. They've been threatening to break up since 1982.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 February 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Wrong. It's the Damned. Trust me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Most pointless argument EVAH!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Hawkwind were meant to tour new zealand but ran out of money in auckland (you wouldn't expect many people in expensive auckland to have risked the fashion-sword-trip of being seen at such a gig) before the band got to south island strong-holds like barrytown, christchurch and dunedin -- hope to see them next time, hopeflly with Gong

george gosset (gegoss), Monday, 24 February 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

'the' quo.

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently Great White are still on the road.

(of course not really but this has to be most unfortunate lapse by webmaster in some time.)

teeny (teeny), Monday, 24 February 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

No, teeny, they are. I shit thee not. They're looking for a replacement guitarist.

" i woulsd like to thank the band, i would like to thank our road crew
i would like to thank the lighting people. of all the shows on this tour, this particular show will remain with us the longest (cheers)
because not only is it...not only is it the last show of this tour, but it's the last show we'll ever do.."

piscesboy, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

What is little reported is that Woody Woodmansey, having just learned he was out of a job via that speech, then proceeded to throw his drumsticks at Bowie.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Ignore previous message...Blabbermouth is reporting otherwise now.

Alan Conceicao, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I was only referring to the show being described as "HOT" in flaming letters as being the unfortunate bit.
