I like punk songs that put you in a good mood. what is that song that just makes you happy, smile, dance when you hear it?

Jessica Toddles, Sunday, 23 February 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably something by the Descendents.

hstencil, Sunday, 23 February 2003 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Something by the Rezillos, probably. Good Sculptures, maybe.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 February 2003 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I generally don't like happy punk but Snuff are pretty good at this style

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 23 February 2003 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

everybody's happr nowadays - buzzcocks

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, the Descendents' Milo Goes to College is the definite starting point, and it still sounds good.

Aaron A., Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Everything by Toy Dolls. Especially,Dougie Giro,Nellie the Elephant,Carol Dodds is Pregnant,Yul Brynner was a Skinhead,Cheerio and Toodle Pip,Florence is Deaf(But There's No Need to Shout),Olga Crack Corn,Ernie Had a Hernia,and I'm a Telly Addict.

Scott Seward, Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't think of that buzzcocks song as happy at all

also the best descendents songs are the ones that are kinda bittersweet

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

"i don't think of that buzzcocks song as happy at all"
thought i was the only one
i think thet 'everybody's happr nowadays' is more about feeling upset rather then happy

rex jr., Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Y'could have plenty of other Buzzcocks stuff instead though. Part Time Punks by the TVPs is pretty jolly.

Ferg (Ferg), Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

"Everybody's Happy Nowadays" isn't happy, but it makes me smile and dance. I really like "Teenage Kicks" by the Undertones.

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:29 (twenty-three years ago)

None of _Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables_ is really happy, but it makes me happy. Guess i'm showing my age...

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm always perturbed by people who call "shiny happy people" a happy clappy song. It's definitely not.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

yes it is, Dog Latin (they even say "up! here we go!"). But a very beautiful one.

I'd vote for "Clash City Rockers." It gives me a jolt of electrical shockers!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

or maybe "The Young Crazed Peeling" by the Distillers.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

'where's the boy for me' - the rezillos
'teenage kicks' & 'get over you' - the undertones
'latex love' - vice squad
'another girl, another planet' - the only ones
'jilted john' - jilted john

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Brock K. (Brock K.), Monday, 24 February 2003 01:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Plastic Betrand "C'est Plane Pour Moi" Is happy, isn't it?

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 24 February 2003 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Ramones, "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend"

Ian Johnson, Monday, 24 February 2003 03:07 (twenty-three years ago)

"Everybody's Happy Nowadays" isn't happy, but it makes me smile and dance.

exactly.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 24 February 2003 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Husker Du - Green Eyes

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:13 (twenty-three years ago)

"California Uber Alles" always puts me in a good mood. I'm not sure what that says about me.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Everything off of The Hives' Veni Vidi Vicious makes me grin from ear to ear.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:45 (twenty-three years ago)

yea, the hives rule (uh huh)
but really, what about blink 182's 'first date'?
maybe the vandals arent real punk enough for all of you,
but i think many of their songs are pretty damn happy

"Punk Rock Girl" - The Dead Milkmen

Dave Fischer, Monday, 24 February 2003 07:43 (twenty-three years ago)

another girl, another planet is not a happy song. it may sound happy but there is nothing happy about hanging out with a needle poking out your arm.

but the revillos i can vote for. this also goes for the b52's, even though many would argue they aren't very punk rock at all, but i'd beg to differ.

mallory bourgeois (painter man), Monday, 24 February 2003 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

wasted - black flag

kevin brady (groeuvre), Monday, 24 February 2003 09:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i have to agree with punk rock girl - dead milkmen, i was gonna say that.

Jeff Klassen, Monday, 24 February 2003 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, probably something by Chisel or Ted Leo--maybe "8 AM All Day" or "Hip Straights".

die9o (dhadis), Monday, 24 February 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

it has to be something by skinned teen

schnell schnell, Monday, 24 February 2003 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

They may be ironic, but both "TV Party" by Black Flag and "Group Sex" by the Cirle Jerks are pretty happy......as it "I Saw Your Mommy" by Suicidal Tendencies.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

isn't "happy punk" more the domain of brats?

for sheer mindless enjoyment, hard to beat me first and the gimme gimmes, or perhaps bouncing souls.

jq higgins, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

'kids in america' by kim wilde

schnell schnell, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

(a) that song's not happy (b) that song's not Punk.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

(a) that song is happy (b) it's probably the most punk thing mentioned on this thread (apart from skinned teen)

schnell schnell, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh *that's right** Stinned Teen are more punk than the Dickies, the Circle Jerks and Black Flag. Silly me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

all those groups you mentioned were rock groups

schnell schnell, Monday, 24 February 2003 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

My head hurts.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

How old are you?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm sort of with hstencil -- Dave Smalley's voice was less confrontational than Milo's;
All -- Sugar and Spice

christoff (christoff), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

"Love Song" by the Damned as well

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

"hearts on fire" - bryan adams.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 24 February 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

anything by Good Charlotte or Blink-182, but especially "The Anthem" and "All the Small Things."

Evan (Evan), Monday, 24 February 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
Minutemen - "History Lesson, Part II"
X-Ray Spex - "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sex Bomb" by Flipper.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, hstencil OTM

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"Love Comes in Spurts"

anode (anode), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with Adam: "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" cheers me up no matter what the Buzzcocks' intentions were. But any old happy-go-lucky Ramones track'll do nicely. "Rockaway Beach" is great, tho I never necessarily shared it's anti-disco sentiments.

Myonga Von Bontee, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The Freeze - Broken Bones

eleki-san (eleki-san), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr T Experience - You're the only one

Jole (Jole), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sex Bomb" OTM.

Also, "Government Center" by Modern Lovers and "Homicide" by 999 because I wish it were possible to believe in homicide sometimes.

And the B-52's first album, especially "Dance this Mess Around".

In the more broader sense, "Anything Can Happen" and "Tally Ho" by The Clean and "My Noise" by Superchunk are happy for me.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"i wanna fuck yer brains out" and "drink, fight, and fuck" by GG Allin

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"Pull My Strings" by the Dead Kennedys.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"Oh Oh I Love Her So", by the Ramones.

"Hanging out on a night like this I’m gonna give her a great big kiss
I’m gonna make her mine and everything’s gonna be real fine."

Punk, or rock & roll, for that matter, doesn't get any happier than that.

abegrand, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Fear's "I Don't Care About You" always brings a huge grin to my face. Greatest shout-along chorus ever.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

And the B-52's first album, especially "Dance this Mess Around".
Ooh, if this counts, then totally the phone number song ("606-0842"?)

anode (anode), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Would Madness' "One Step Beyond" count? All the others I thought of (Rezillos, "Rockaway Beach," "Teenage Kicks," etc.) are already listed.

mike a, Wednesday, 18 February 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

sheena is a punk rocker

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)
