What is the lightest/softest music you like?

I guess for me it's gonna have to be Jimmy Cliff or Toots and the Maytals. Or it could be some of AFX's Selected Ambient works. Wait, no, it's got to be Kind of Blue.

Famous Athlete, Monday, 24 February 2003 05:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Xamanax.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:11 (twenty-three years ago)

The Aluminum Group.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Dennis Wilson's self-titled album. But I can only
stand soft music if it has haunting undertones.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Judy Collins' "Wildflowers" album. Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell songs, summer-of-love strings, soft-focus cover photo. Perfect hippie folk-pop.

Jesse Fox, Monday, 24 February 2003 05:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Err, it's not actually self-titled it's called
"Pacific Ocean Blue," and it's better than most
Beach Boys or Brian Wilson albums.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 24 February 2003 05:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never been an afficiando of the old Easy Listening/stereo exploitation/"bachelor pad" stuff, but I have plucked a few LPs out of the bins.

I do kinda like this one album by Clebanoff and His Orchestra called Moods in Music. It's very quiet. It sounds like it's barely even there.

Mean Guy, Monday, 24 February 2003 05:50 (twenty-three years ago)

That Sam Prekop solo record is up there.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 24 February 2003 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

mahogany. sounds like very melodic cotton wool

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 24 February 2003 06:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't decide which of these is lightest/softest, but I like them all reasonably well: Sade, The Blue Nile, Mojave 3, and Xamanax.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 24 February 2003 06:26 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah that sam prekop record is def one...the fourth sea and cake alb too...afx saw ii probably too "intense" t be considered light

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 24 February 2003 06:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, Brian Eno's Discreet Music

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Monday, 24 February 2003 07:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably Lawrence Welk - Calcutta, or something by Bert Kaempfert & Orchestra.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 24 February 2003 07:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I hear a lot of love for Prekop. I agree. And you Chicago people probably don't need this advice, but you should seriously listen to the Aluminum Group's new album. Here's an mp3.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 February 2003 07:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Harmonia.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 24 February 2003 07:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 February 2003 07:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, their soft stuff -- I must clarify. Stuff like "Carnaval Batucada" is among the hardest music I have, believe it or not. There's just no way to have more drums than that.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 February 2003 08:49 (twenty-three years ago)

lemon jelly

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 24 February 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

The Free Design -- so light even I can't stand to listen to it in large doses. Damn the album graphics are nice though.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 24 February 2003 10:39 (twenty-three years ago)

rex jr., Monday, 24 February 2003 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always said Kings of Convenience is the "wussiest" album I own.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The Free Design for me too.I also love Judy Collins' 'Wildflowers',beautiful LP.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Montgolfier Brothers. In fact, it makes me uncomfortable because I keep wishing they'd kick it in gear and they never do.

paul cox (paul cox), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Air. I have a Cardigans album but I don't listen to it.

Zora (Zora), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

AC Jobim

oops (Oops), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Does Prefab Sprout count? Because pound for pound, they're the lightest band that have the strongest pull.

If we're just talking easy listening, Discreet Music would be it .. but if we're talking about gay & superficial, it's Doris Day or Annette Funicello.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

João Gilberto's '70s album "João Gilberto" (just him and a very light drummer). It's actually intense, but it don't sound that way.

frank p. jones (frank p. jones), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)
