the Miami Herald said this was the beginning of his descent into MC Hammer-like hip hop irrevelancy.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 24 February 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it would be more accurate to say that Heineken loves the entree into the so-called urban youth market that a partnership with Jay Z promises... Oh well, This Notes For You.

How much product placement in rap is free?

Nelly's footwear to thread...

I actually wrote something about this in a review once, I think it was Ginuwine who had a song all about his Motorola Two-Way Pager. I talked about the long history of fetishization in pop music, from Chuck Berry to Run DMC to this.

TMFTML (TMFTML), Monday, 24 February 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Does Jay-Z endorse Heineken because scratching was invented because of it?

hstencil, Monday, 24 February 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

MGD = Man Goop Drink?

Has anyone seen the commercial for the new Funkmaster Flex driving shoe!? Not even a shoe for walking. I guess you take your walking shoes off and slip your F1's on after you get in your hummer.(I think it was F1 I could be wrong) Jay-Z should court the Green Party and come out with a limited edition walking stick made out of the recycled bones of anyone foolish enough to cross his path. You have to make inroads with any demo not currently buying your prod.

Scott Seward, Monday, 24 February 2003 21:43 (twenty-three years ago)

heineken are going premium in the uk if yr interested.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 24 February 2003 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

i was under the impression that scraching was invented when someone (possibly grandmaster flash) was always in his room mixing and he used to put his hand on the record to stop it when his mum came in to say something to him and when he heard the sound he continued with it...
obviously that could well be wrong, but if it is,how does heineken fit into the story?

robin (robin), Monday, 24 February 2003 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Heineken... Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE RIBBON!

original bgm, Monday, 24 February 2003 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, that didn't quite work out. Do a cut-and-paste if you really wanna see a Dennis Hopper circa-Blue Velvet picture. :(

Ah, much better.

original bgm, Monday, 24 February 2003 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

robin, I was referring to a now-deleted Heineken ad that claimed scratching was invented when a hiphop dj spilled a beer on his turntable.

hstencil, Monday, 24 February 2003 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

oh right...
as for dennis hopper, that was the first thing i thought of when i saw the thread title as well...
