currently touring downunder. much cop live, or a snoozefest with ill-fitting guest vocals?

From what I hear, depends on the tour. But when I saw em for "Protection," they killed me. Just fucking killed me. So so good.

i saw them twice. once on the protection tour and once on the mezzanine tour. i was extremely disappointed each time. they are definitely not a live band. their music is all right as background music in cafés etc. and as music at home in the living room. but live they only sound less good than on record. that's all. there was absolutely zero live atmosphere at any of the two concerst.

As opposed to Tricky, who twitches like a demon and jitters around the stage. His live show was lot more live than I expected.

Absolutely definitely go to see them.
They manage to convey the whole atmosphere and menace of the recorded sessions into a live atmosphere. Of course, on the Mezzanine tour they had Elizabeth Fraser..... not sure if they'll have Sinead this time.

Surprised that they're touring Australia at the moment, though - they were in my local, the Coronation Tap, last Monday....?

Saw them on the mezzanine tour at the enormodome NEC Bham and it was a bit shite, having said that the intro + angel was fkg amazing me and a friend were losing it quite heavily for the 20 min or so duration.

As was said above ideally they need to play in the corner of your lounge whilst you're relaxing with a nice spliff, sadly this isn't going to happen, be prepared to be frustrated.

You living in Bristol Russ? Have you seen Liz Fraser about?

chris sallis, Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently Dot Allison and Horace Andy are doing the vocals for the Australian tour.

Hayden Nicholls (Pop the Weasel), Thursday, 27 February 2003 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris,
Liz lives with Damon in Clifton Village, just by the Suspension Bridge, and round the corner from Christchurch Studios - 2 streets from me.
Occasionally see her (looking pretty fab) with her kids out shopping, last time was in January. Also seen her a few times at a really good organic restaurant in Clifton where she's a regular (a friend of mine works there). Don't think she's a 'clubbing' type, though!

What's all this shit about del Naja being arrested over child internet porn yesterday? Another police fuck up I imagine - smear the name of an innocent man forever then find him innocent a few weeks later with zero evidence......

russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 10:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i do hope so Russ, hasnt Del Naja just had a kid (no jokes please) recently? or am i thinking of Daddy G?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 11:14 (twenty-three years ago)

He has a daughter, and G's girlfriend had a baby last year.

This is sickening - see my reponse to the 3D does a Townsend thread, but I don't believe for a second this is true. The police in Bristol (pretty inept at the best of times) must have been rubbing their hands with glee when they realised who they were going to question - makes them seem almost worthwhile.

Russ you lucky soul! I've been Liz spotting for two years and haven't seen her once - bumped into loads of mates I wasn't looking for but that's hardly the point - still I know where to hang out in future (if I wasn't moving to Brighton).

Ah, Liz Fraser *sigh*...

chris sallis, Friday, 28 February 2003 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Where'd you live at the mo, Chris?

Oh, and the restaurant she loves is Rocinantes, the tapas bar on Whiteladies Road.... (!!)
