Bands that are expressions

I mean bands whose names were taken from common english expressions like "No Way, Jose" or "Ace in the Hole" or "Piece of Cake," except none of these are actual bands as far as I know. I thought of this in the shower this morning and since then I've been struggling to come up with more than the only one I can think of so far:

Dire Straits

They Might Be Giants

They had a special on them on ABC awhile back (which was DA SHIT, btw) where they explained their name, and I'm amazed I never realized the context they implied over the 15 or so years I've been a fan.

They said that it's, like, a proclamation of fear and paranoia, like they're in their little house, and they want to go out, but they know there's some folks out there, and good God man! THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!!!

One of my former one-man-pretending-to-be-a-band projects was called "Joy of Life" (yes, I realize now how awful a name that is), based off of a French phrase I cannot possibly spell (phonetically, it's something like: jwah de vee) that translates into, yes, "joy of life".

Also, my band shares a practice space with the (horribly named) I Think Not.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 February 2003 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't believe nobody's said The Guess Who, or as they were originally known:
