russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

HOLY SHIT. I would travel to England for this.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

surreal...i wish they'd all played last year tho (fuckin Rod Stewart bah) as i'm not sure i can make this year's yet

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

...the line-up this year does seem better than everso far.

Interesting that Dave Gahan's doing his solo debut there, too. Anyone heard anything about this? Who's he working with?

russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

christ knows. martin's out on his own tour
this year isn't he ?

piscesboy, Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Prince, Radiohead, REM

Three fantastic reasons to stay at home

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently so, Martin Gore's got a solo album this year sometime.... he's got heavy metal long hair now, too, which looks very strange (a bit Bette Midler/Twisted Sister, I thought).

j0e - a question.... as you're apparently not a Prince fan...err...WHY did you click on this thread...? Strange.....

russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

j0e is the anti-me! (Except for the REM part, that I completely agree with; I'd put up with them for Prince, though.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

we can't comment on music we don't like, russ? didn't you post on the toploader thread?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

j0e is a great bloke but he's also a catty bitch, hence the thread-clicking hahaha

and yeh Russ, you're as guilty as the rest of us at this!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

This almost makes me want to go, but I hate mud and hippies.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-but PRINCE! And Dave Gahan!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

and Afro Celt Sound System, ladysmith Black Mzambo and Joolz R&B Orchestra! waaaaargh...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I am a catty bitch it's true. And I don't really understand why I wasn't supposed to clicky clicky - I wanted to see who else was on

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

point taken.
you catty bitch, jOe....!

russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

well - it's best you all knew now rather than being surprised later

(actually I'm a pussycat)

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

whats new joe?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Interesting that Dave Gahan's doing his solo debut there, too. Anyone heard anything about this? Who's he working with?

Apparently Sigur Ros's producers. I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Apparently so, Martin Gore's got a solo album this year sometime.... he's got heavy metal long hair now, too, which looks very strange (a bit Bette Midler/Twisted Sister, I thought).

Looks more like that Bowie hairstyle from a couple of years back. The new album's more covers and I like the listing of what's on it, as you can find out more about here. "By This River" and "Loverman"? Mmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes, and Nicole is right (wouldn't be able to afford it anyway with my October plans and all).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

(...and actually I just noticed that on the DVD single there's a video of Gore doing one of T. Rex's best but least-known songs, "Left Hand Luke and the Beggar Boys" -- SEAN AND ARTHUR TO THREAD!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHA Martin Gore looks like a friend of mine from college with that haircut!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I loved the first Counterfeit album... in fact, I prefer Gore's vocals to Gahan's. All my favourite DM songs are sung by him (A Question of Lust.... I can imagine Shirley Bassey doing it, or someone of that ilk).

Played the soundbites on the site - don't sound too convincing (HOW uncommercial does the single sound?), but it was only a few seconds so can't really tell.

Gahan with Sigur Ros's producers? Hmmm....

russ t, Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

They're both great (admittedly Gahan has developed into a convincing singer while Gore was one from day one) and Martin does get to do a shocking number of the great DM songs, but perhaps that's fair since he writes them.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Very much so, yes.

(Actually, Dan, while the subject has come up -- get the DM One Night In Paris DVD if you haven't already. Gore's versions of "It Doesn't Matter Two," "Sister of Night," "Breathe" and an easter egg of "Surrender" are genius.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Prince any good these days?

Dave Gahan... nyeh.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

For both those comments, Dan and I cast you into the pit of perdition. (We're nutty that way.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

TAKING SIDES:

Glastonbury (Prince, Radiohead, REM, Dave Gahan, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Afro-Celt Sound System, etc.)

vs.

Bonnaroo (James Brown, The Roots, Sonic Youth, Antibales Afrobeat Orchestra, Kid Koala, etc.)

HUGE FESTIVAL FITE!!!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

martin gore has gone nu-metal.

He looks like the singer from Puddle Of Mudd.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't make me cry, please.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

My appolgies Ned, perhaps I went too far this time.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Friday, 28 February 2003 02:11 (twenty-three years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 February 2003 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Gore's looking seriously old, too...,. the pics of him on his site are pretty unflattering.... he looks like an ageing Berlin drag queen in some of them....

russ t, Friday, 28 February 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

that might be the look he's going for

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 28 February 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I am hugely excited by the prospect of all three headliners, therefore I am officially MORE anti-j0e than Dan is.

Weird, because otherwise we share fairly similar taste...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 February 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

come on then what's this going to be like ?
hits set like bowie ?
career-revival like r.e.m. ?
both ?

he was recently doing 3 hr sets.

he's coming a long way for 1 gig.
let's start imagining...

piscesboy, Thursday, 6 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

...all 6 sides of Emancipation.
Twice.

russ t, Thursday, 6 March 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Piscesboy, I saw him last year and the set list was basically the same as that which is on the recent One Night Alone 2cd set. Basically the first third of material was from his last record Rainbow Children, then the rest a mix of oldies. Lots of jamming. Really, really great!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 7 March 2003 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Gore's looking seriously old, too...,. the pics of him on his site are pretty unflattering.... he looks like an ageing Berlin drag queen in some of them....

:(

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 March 2003 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

:( -100

best looking pop star in world 1997-93

piscesboy, Friday, 7 March 2003 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Ijust thought that, with all his monmey, he could've had them teeth sorted. Good clothes, though.

87-93? But Morten Harket was around that time, too, piscesboy...?!

russ t, Friday, 7 March 2003 12:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Prince will play the 'jazz set'.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:47 (twenty-three years ago)

aging berlin drag queen = my dream girl obv

geeta (geeta), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

People get old, folks. And Martin still can wear a bit of glam-derived stuff well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 March 2003 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

!
