inspired by Fila Brazillia's 'Power Clown' CD which features a booklet depicting each track as a surreal funny comic strip - they're so good i scanned them in, check them out at http://www.base58.com/stuff/powerclown

The Homogenic digipak one is sublime

tee hee! I forgot about those Fila cartoons...haven't seen them since I first listened to the album.

I'm away from my collection, but those cartoons remind of the comic-book style booklet in Outkast's 'ATLiens'

Nothing beats the enormous rolling paper that came with the Big Bambu LP.

Comic book in De La Soul Is Dead so you can read along.

A little off subject, but my copy of People Under the Stairs' "The Next Step" came w/a beedie(sp?) in the spine of the case.

I fancy the fold out cheapo lyric sheet in You Are Free. Fery eco-nomical.

Aenima by Tool. Almost every bit of the folded booklet has movement images to be seen with the top part of the box, which is one of those thingies that gives a different image, depending on the angle you look at it. (And it has California disappearing on the tray.)

Peven Everett's "Studio Confessions" -- because i designed it. (haha sorry, poor self promotion)

but another really cool one is a No Neck Blues Band cd where the front is a piece of wood w/their logo cauterized into it, and the back is a piece of clear plastic that is velcroed to the wood.

Maxinquaye by Tricky - 'cos it folds out to double the size, and has really cool pictures of the Tricky wagon on it, plus Martina, yummy. Great album, love the cover. Evocative and tactile. I like holding it just cos of how it looks. Weird.

Kid Koala's inlay to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome was brilliant and FUN. The little book that comes with 69 Love Songs box set is even more entertaining then if it was a 4th cd.

Every St. Etienne album, esp. Good Humor, for the lovely liner notes.
The last three Sea and Cake albums, for the gorgeously minimal design sense, and the added cachet of having the photos + design handled by the band themselves.

Tool's new album: Lateralus, has an awesome booklet

naga_pampa (naga_pampa), Friday, 28 February 2003 01:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i love the cd booklets that they print on that kind of shiny, plastic-y paper. the kind that smells really good. you know - suede 'coming up,' the delgados 'peloton,' etc. if you sniff them you get a little buzz.

yeah, i sniff my cd inlays. what?

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 28 February 2003 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

the cd of sister by sonic youth had a cute little sister photo on the inner sleeve, so when you put the cd away you were kind of coldly turning your back on her, while she was reflected on the cd looking back at you disappointedly

Shellac "At action park", vynil edition

For design, i'd say the "booklet" for the This Mortal Coil is noteworthy; while it offers little in the way info, the pages are filled with imagery emoting the disc's contents (think Neil Gaiman's collage-work from Sandman).

i tend not to buy CD's but certainly the best recent vinyl package had to be larry levan at the paradise garage on STRUT. illuminous design and spine, pictures, write up (although robbed from last night a DJ saved my life) and the best part, and most unusual in todays cynical money grabbing music industry - half the profits went to aids awareness charities (oh and some great tunes). STRUT i salute you
