"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" C/D?

I distinctly remember thinking this song was crap some time ago. Right now it's the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I dunno, I just love the whole optimistic "Things aren't cool but they will be someday" vibe of this song.

Of course, if you want to dismiss it as country-pop schlock, I'm fine with that. I'll probably hate it again when I'm feeling less angsty.

I just love the whole optimistic "Things aren't cool but they will be someday" vibe of this song.

Then you should love "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" the ne plus ultra of that sentiment.

"Raindrops" song is classic, but I don't like the vocal treatment--it accentuates the novelty aspect.

Dud. But you have inspired me to create a new thread.

"Things aren't cool but they will be someday"

Someone (not me, I'm going to bed) should start a thread about songs with this message. A lot of Tin Pan Alley pop music from the Depression had this kind of sugary optimism-in-spite-of-hard-times.

Completely unintelligable outside the smug anti-western that won it an Oscar (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)--and completely unbearable in context.

I like the simple thump of the "head"/"red" rhyme, but hate the "free"/ "nothing's worrying me" part, which is a lazy rip on "Singin' in the Rain."

Sorry to rain on your rain.

I've yet to meet a Bacharach song I didn't like. Yeah, it's tacky, but it's great fun to hum on the bus. Plus, the horn line is perfect.

next up, 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance', C/D?

oh, I say Classic.

B.J. Thomas is hot! Search: "Everybody's Out of Town", "The Eyes of a NY Woman", "Hooked on a Feeling". "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" and "Close to You" were the first non-bubblegum songs I remember loving as a kid.

Great tune, absolutely. I get tired of having to defend this song. Bacharach is cool, especially The Look of Love...one of the sexiest songs ever. Anyone know where I can score Casino Royale on vinyl?

Okay, wth the song stuck in my head since reading this, I've decided the "head"/"red" part makes up for the rest, and for any association with the movie that (I've gotta admit) launched a pretty great cable channel...

Thinking about the song is probably better than actually hearing it. Bacharach was cool .. but not for this song. It strikes me as very Sesame Street. ..and that's Big Bird, not Grover or Roosevelt Franklin. The horn thing a the end is cool though...

The bridge/release part is nice I think. The coda works well. It's not my favorite Bacharach song. I think Bacharach is great, but I don't quite understand how he gets hipster cred and Jobim doesn't. Or does he?

I do like B. J. Thomas' "Everybody's Out of Town."

Jobim gets TOTAL cred from me. 'Agua de Beber' wins, every time.
