... with the following exceptions listed below. (if you can name albums, even specific songs, that would be cool too. i am attempting to expand my music horizons/obsessions.) have fun. thank you.

(1) interpol, "pda"
(a) "stella"
(b) "leif erickson"

(2) massive attack, "protection"
(a) "smalltime shot away"

(3) magazine "the light pours out of me"
(a) "rhythm of cruelty"

(4) manic street preachers "yes"
(a) "royal correspondent"

(5) slowdive, "souvlaki space station"
(a) "when the sun hits"
(b) "alison"

* exceptions please. * no joy division for interpol. no portishead or other obvious trip-hop references to massive attack. no g'n'r or clash for manics. i think (i like to think) i have a decent knowledge of the influences / similar sounding bands of those listed above, but after lurking for three months i know how creative y'all can be. i am eager to see what you come up with, that is if anyone likes / answers to this thread at all. :)

This exercise is fraught with "That's too obvious you moron" and "T'cha how can he think x sounds like y, he's obviously not understood them at all" dangers but *with the caveat that they don't actually sound similar*, how about:

The Only Ones - 'Prisoners' for (3)

thank you, first poster! and don't worry about the dangers. you will be safely returned to your home once the exercise is complete.

crazy broad similarities are cool too. if you can think of a song, album, band, that has a similar emotional resonance, captures and crystallizes a similar mood, i'd appreciate that too. all of the songs listed above are MOOD songs to me, first and foremost, conveying a particular mental state that i long to see ethereally complemented in other songs.

bring on your weird suggestions. this is my first de-lurking q., so i wanted to make it an interesitng one.
