Redux: Music in Ads - I've changed my mind

I'm no longer annoyed when Toyota uses a Buzzcocks song in an ad..

Yesterday, I heard a commercial for Saturn - and they used "Just an Old-Fashioned Love Song" by 3 Dog Night. I remember that song better for Paul Williams singing it on every variety show on the air in 1974.

When I was 16 - 25 .. commercials used all that baby-boomer shit, and it annoyed me. (Now if only hair care products would stop using "Natural Woman" .. )

Sellout, shmellout... ads should stay current with music .. (And I'm sure there's some kid who is annoyed by all of the postpunk shit in ads today...)

I seem to remember Williams performing it on "the Muppet Show" with a gaggle of Paul Williams-themed Muppets who pop out of his piano. Ring a bell?

Yeah - and I always thought Paul Williams looked like a muppet to begin with.

What's his claim to fame anyway? He seems to be famous for being famous...

He was in Smokey and the Bandit, no?

phantom of the paradise!

_Battle for the Planet of the Apes_ to the the thread!

But Fritz is right, Williams' contribution to the above masterpiece should ensure that in the miserable annals of the earth he will be duly enshrined.
