i'm listening to 'fork songs' today for the first time in ages and thinking about just how wonderful/amazing tall dwarfs are. however i wasn't that into 'stumpy' or 'three ep's' - has anyone heard their newest or their next to newest? i guess i felt that 'stumpy' lacked the melodic strenghts of their best work, in other words, it just wasn't catchy enough!!!

Tall Dwarfs : C/D?

"Stumpy" was an exception as it really was International Tall Dwarfs, which is more of an experiment interacting with lucky fans across the globe. While "Stumpy" is imho weaker than the rest, i feel it's a bit too misaligned amongst Dwarfsies.

That said, the subsequent albums to "Stumpy" are more like the classic onces, IMHO... although they take a little more growing on you. And the Knox songs are more like his solo stuff (i.e. rock, use of that big thudding beatbox, etc.).

I liked "50 Flavours of Glue" quite a bit, but I think "The Sky Above The Mud Below" is a little better, although this took a long while for me to get. It seems Chris is stepping back a bit these days in the Dwarfs, and giving Alec more of the spotlight. (not to imply that less Knox presence = better, mind you)

yeah, i dig bathgate, i really like his songs always. he's the perfect harrison to knox's lennon/mccartney (if that makes any sense). i'll probably pick up the new one.

definitely underrated, Alec Bathgate's solo album, Gold Lamé, which is pop perfection.

John if catchy is what you want, you'll like the last 2 albums. It sounds like Alex is getting a l;ittle more room to do his thing. Alos I'll second the "Gold Lame" reccomindation. I like it at least as much if not better than Knox's solo releases.
