Okay. Is it now legal for ISPs to monitor your downloads in the USA, and in doing so issue warnings if your downloads exceed a certain size in one 24-hour period? I've heard mumblings of this all over the net, and wondered what else everyone has heard. In other words.... is SLSK safe?

well, for those of us for whom it still takes 24 hours to download one album, we should be safe

what if everything you download is not copyright-protected?

i think you're confusing two issues - some ISPs are indeed putting bandwidth caps on their users and warning/charging users more if they exceed a certain amount (i think 5 gigs is standard).

as for monitoring downloads for copyright violations, i don't think that's going to happen unless and until the ISPs are legally coerced into doing it. and given the amount of time and manpower that would take, i don't even think it's feasible.
