tainted by association with Peter Frampton and Richie Sambora, "talking guitar" just screams "MULLET!"

or does it? despite the taint, it doesn't sound THAT much more gimmicky or stuff than a vocoder. and not a few ILMers have no problems with vocoders.

Doc Watson does talking guitar all acoustically on his album "Songs for Little Pickers". Of course, it doesn't sound like talking at all, so DOC doesn't ROC(k). You can ostracize me for this rotten...play on words?

I actually didn't realize the technology had been around for so long before Frampton, but this Pete Drake clip is from 1966 and it's sweet.
