Soundtracking books - C/D?

Found myself doing this earlier while reading J.G. Ballard's The Terminal Beach with Birchville Cat Motel's We Count these Prayers playing. i'd just begun "Terminal Beach" itself when i remembered that K.K. Null had released a CD under that title. couldn't resist switching the soundtrack to said album in mid-sentence (not that the BCM hadn't paired superbly with "The Illuminated Man" and "The Delta at Sunset") then caught myself wondering whether such attention to detail isn't a little, um, ... troubling?

what are ILM's thoughts on this compulsive practice?

I usually listen to classical or jazz while I'm reading. I hear those types of music can make you smarter, and I'm trying to double-up the effect.

When I was reading Dorothy Allison's Cave Dweller I need to listen to Bob Dylan's back catalogue. Especially the earlier stuff. Or Carole King - Tapestry. Usually classic. Can't listen to exceptionally loud music, though. That is usually a big fat dud.

I can't listen to Aphex's SAWII without remembering Alisdair Gray's "Five Letters from an Eastern Empire". They just seem to complement each other perfectly.

I like to listen to Avril Lavigne while I read Katy Keene comics.
