"Things We Said Today" - The Beatles.

Actually, the Rickenbackers are kind of mixed low. The acoustic guitar is much more prominent.

The Beatles are so great. It depresses me that people don't see it, but whatever. I was going to post something to that thread where people dissed the Beatles "influence", talking about their harmonic innovation and whatnot, but then I said fuck it, why bother.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:36 (twenty-three years ago)

"Blood & Roses" by The Smithereens. I think it's in Em... Memories of being 15 and cutting grass... GIMME A FUCKIN' BEER.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't fret, Mr. Diamond. It's not like the rest of the world has forgotten how great the Beatles are. The only reason I no longer own any of their records is because I have every single one of them memorized from beginning to end.

I'd love to answer the thread, but I don't know how to tell a Rickenbacker from a regular old guitar. Is there a trick?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Extra jangly - think Roger McGuinn, Paul Weller circa 1978, almost all REM songs pre-Green (FITE!).

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Hm. But isn't it possible to get that sound out of any guitar, if you want to? Isn't this a bit like being able to hear the difference between a Fender and a Les Paul?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:49 (twenty-three years ago)

yes and no

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, wait... Tom Petty is a big Rickenbacker guy, isn't he? That must be the sound you mean. Okay, got it. I think.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:51 (twenty-three years ago)

lilys - "elevator is temporary"

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sober, but 'Turn, Turn, Turn' by The Byrds. Or 'I come and stand at every door'. Or 'If you're gone'. Or 'I knew I'd want you'.

P.S. I'm no musicologist so sorry if one of these isn't in a minor key.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:05 (twenty-three years ago)

minor key...rickenbackers....minor key...rickemburgers...minor quay...ricky'sburgers...circular quay...um, what? i'm a little drunk.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

things you keep: apartments. mightn't have rickenbackers. it jangles a bit though.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

The angles' "Dover Beach" is my pick. I think it's the best rickenbacker track ever, like.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

something by tugboat. all our recordings are rickenbacker, some jangle, most are minor key.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheap Trick, "Elo Kiddies". Well if you're actually drunk just imagine there's one in there.

dave q, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

esoj: you're in tugboat?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 8 May 2003 07:41 (twenty-three years ago)

electric sound of jim-- was your band named after the Galaxie 500 song?
(p.s. i am drunk too, but i'm too busy with indefinable overdriven drone guitar to imagine the sound of a Rickenbauucker).

listening to Never Say Goodbye by MBV now.
i like bands that tell beautiful lies. if i were alone in this room i would cry.

gabriel (gabe), Thursday, 8 May 2003 08:40 (twenty-three years ago)

yes indeed it was.

that reminds me, gaz never told me who was crushing on me. that tease.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 8 May 2003 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 15 December 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The opening riff is.
