If overdose = surfeit, does drowning count?

Paula G., Tuesday, 18 March 2003 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris Kenner drank himself to death down there, that would count in my book. At least as significant and enjoyable as Mr. Thunders.

Jess Hill (jesshill), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

That counts!

Ah, at least you probably had a good meal before you passed on--advantage of NOLA OD. Little tougher to justify in Indianapolis--cf. AJ Liebling's great offhand comment "In New Orleans, a po-boy is a portable banquet; in the rest of the United States, it's a crippling blow to the gut."

Thunders lasted all those years and ate it within a few days of hitting town. It was like the Bowie move to Berlin to "get clean". Shame he never got to gig. He would have made a great local fixture. instead I get a Cowsill an ex Bangle aand Trent Reznors house to see

He never even made it to gig? Who goes to NOLA to get clean? Who else you got down there? John Sinclair lives in town? Chilton still lives there? Too bad Ernie K-Doe died, good "naugahyde."

Chiltons a walking zombie. Last time I saw him was the Big star reunion thingy and the posies SANG 95% of the songs. It was New Years eve he missed the countdown and shouted obscenities at the fans like a crazed homeless man. Classic but sad.
Thunders on the other hand was kinda yellow but still upright and wanted to play blues. Probably found junk within an hour of getting downtown and overdosed from sheer potency of the local shit

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Oxycontin to thread

Yeah, that sounds about right. He's on the oldies circuit now. Too bad, he was so good at one time. I saw him at Howlin' Wolf maybe eight years ago, he seemed not too fucked up.

Jess Hill (jesshill), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Thats about the last year of his worth playing live. time to return to dishwashing.

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 23:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex that is.

My girlfriend saw him in Memphis w/ Box Tops about four years ago and he fell down on the stage twice, but kept right on singing. I guess if someone would hire him to just play guitar he'd be OK?
