back to massive. again.
they did 'last time' if you'll forgive
the expression.

No, they didn't. When Mezzanine came out, a second Gulf War was about to start. As no one seems to remember. Kofi Annan averted that one in extra time. Anyway, 3D has sais in several 2003 interviews that they would never do such a thing again.

With both Daddy G and Musroom outta the picture, "they" shouldn't be calling themselves Massive Attack to begin with.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

very true alex in nyc. although original
fans would say that they shouldn't have been called that
once tricky, shara, et al left.

they should have stuck with 'the wild bunch'.

Daddy G Has Left Too????!! gawdamit!

rex jr., Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Given Robert's well publicised views on this scandalous war, I think he'd deliberately use the name to cause offence to our two little Hitlers, anyway..... and power to him.

russ t, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

G will supposedly be touring with 3D soon however 100th Window was pretty much all 3D's work... Considering 3D's current predicament, though, perhaps a name change wouldn't be a bad thing...

Dave Stelfox, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Massive Pre-Emptive Attack.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Daddy G supposedly took a backseat on this album to go be...er...a daddy.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Last I heard (from a pretty reliable source) was that G and Naj were hardly speaking, and just before Massive were asked to leave Christchurch studios (just before the release of 100th Window), G had gone to the studio and cleared every item of his that was there - down to boxes of records. So as nice as it'd be, I'd be surprised if he toured with Naj at this point.

russ t, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

any news on Del Naja's ch*ld-p*rn allegations mr russ - its all been quiet since the story broke that he'd been questioned by police. i get the impression that as with Matthew Kelly and Pete Townsend it seems to get swept under the carpet abruptly when it turns out there's no real evidence to convcit of them anything, especially when they haven't done anything anyway (as it would appear)

also, can anyone shed some light on why the guys in Massive Attack never got on. i know it happens to most bands (can't bear to look at each other day in day out, in the studio on stage etc.) and the Massive bunch always came across as moody sods, but is 3D really that much of a control freak? was this the main reason for the split? the fact that first Tricky then Mushroom then Daddy G all walk away leaving just Del Naja remaining suggests its his apparent 'preciousness' and unbearable perfectionism that drove them away.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I gather Mushroom wasn't exactly gung-ho on 3D's Punk fixations that started creeping in circa Mezzanine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

steve those charges have been dropped appara turns out he was just looking at "regular" porn

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone remember Bomb the Bass changing their name to "Tim Simenon" for the same reasons? Come to think of it, anyone remember Bomb the Bass?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

"One to One Religion" by Bomb the Bass was pretty cool, despite its strange sonic simillarity to "Season of the Witch" by Donovan.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked Winter In July, that's a classic. (sorry, should be a new Bomb the Bass appreciation thread).

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Bug Powder Dust and I cant be trusted?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

G had gone to the studio and cleared every item of his that was there - down to boxes of records.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, certainly no reason to assume any bad blood.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Source?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

"Source?"

I heard it was the trip-hop equivalent of Suicide Girls.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

charges dropped ?
says who ?
when ?

piscesboy, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone remember split enz's "six months is a leaky boat" getting banned during the falklands war?

Dave Stelfox, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i guess the King Missile (with support from Anthrax and The Dirtbombs) gig is also postponed indefinitely

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone remember split enz's "six months is a leaky boat" getting banned during the falklands war?

Really? Fuckin' why?

Possibly my fave Split Enz track, actually.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

as far as I know nobody has reported it was regular porn. I think the other guys left becasue the concepts now are just so dull and boring

monstatruk, Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

...as far as I know, the charges still stand.
I wouldn't call 100th Window dull and boring in the slightest, monstatruk. Even if it isn't up there with their greatest moments (apart from Special Cases which is probably my favourite MA single next to Karmacoma and U. Sympathy), dull and boring it definitely isn't.
Listen to it again and again - it grows.

russ t, Thursday, 20 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

no. no it doesn't grow. absolootly no way.
it plods, it drags, it goes on forever in a self-obsessed
tedious up-its-own-arse manner,
but grow is what it does not do.

piscesboy, Thursday, 20 March 2003 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

will dj scud have to change his name to just 'dj'?

schnell schnell, Thursday, 20 March 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

'100th Window' DOES grow - if you dont like it, well done here's your medal now nick off and stop spoiling our 'fun'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 March 2003 18:35 (twenty-three years ago)

del Naja's been cleared by the fuzz
