re: the 8s thread, i definitely feel that a great bridge is a beautiful thing, and find it hard to respect a songwriter if they don't bother to write them...but man, some songs are just perfect up through the 2nd chorus, and then when they go for the bridge it all comes crashing down.

there's plenty of examples, but all i can think of at the moment is "Sunday Morning" by No Doubt.

Suede's "Animal Nitrate" WHAT KIND OF A FUCKING MODULATION IS THAT ruins potentially the finest single of the 90s or all time I AM GLAD BERNARD'S DEAD even if he's not (just the end part of the modulation where the song is about to go somewhere interesting and then...it...JUST FUCKING DOESN'T! AAAAARRGHHH!) (Is the definition of 'muso' 'somebody who actually gets wound up by shit like this'?)

Btw. "Animal Nitrate" doesn't have a bridge. Probably would have been better with one though..
