Why don't I hear more about Stetasonic?

A friend just played them for me and holy crap. If you are ever in argument about the merits of rap, say simply "Stetasonic" and you've won. So amazingly great.

actually, as a group, they were ok - individually, though, each MC was lamer than the next. Reference Daddy-O's lame as hell solo album "You Can be a Daddy, But Never Daddy-O." That said, my school chums and I used to freestyle over their instrumentals back in the day. But yeah, no one talks about them because the records have an overt lameness about them. IMO, of course.

maybe because they haven't done much in the past 15 yrs. but yeah, "talkin' all that jazz" is great.

Lame lyrics? Oh, no, my friend:

"We rock cordless mikes / We ride Ninja bikes / We don't sing heavy metal / And we don't wear spikes!"

"For blood and ore / My people are poor / For the sake of a thrill / My people get killed / And we'll be killed / Till there's nobody left / Time for war / Freedom or death"

Okay, so they're a little lame. And one of them was named Fruitkwan, and mostly what he did was make their clothes, I think. But they were original and funky and sometimes deep, and all the cool kids in the projects loved 'em (I was a youth counselor).

Plus, Daddy-O got name-checked by Chuck D in "Night of the Living Baseheads." So classic.

I liked the rapping, but that's not really what caught my attention, it was the music. I think they're a better rap band than the Roots, then, I'm an ignorant white boy who really doesnt know any other rap bands.
