the funniest musical performance i ever did see
was leigh's first real band 'raw sewage' (originally called
'quality street wrappers') doing 'walk this way'
in blackface and curly wigs
on 3 foot high stilettoes in a make-your-own-video booth.
has to be seen to be believed. the operators of the machine
that taped the makeshift £15 promos were so shocked they forgot to
press record, and the band had to run thru it a second time.
just thinking about it has got me in stitches.
then there's the bit where he throws up in nicola's mouth...
it's repeated tonite at 11 p.m.

...I saw him in Heaven once, a truly scary guy.... he had a body suit on, with ping pong balls placed underneath to give the impression of tumours (I think). Thank God I hadn't taken anything that night.....!
Have you heard the Minty album? Hard to bear in places, genius in others.
Was Aidan Shaw on the show?

The painter Lucian Freud did some paintings of Leigh Bowery in his latter days. I saw some at an exhibition and they made me feel a bit groggy. I'm sure Leigh would have approved.

They talked about Freud's paintings a lot on the prog. Got a bit yawny, actually. Saw Bowery in 'I am kurious oranj' w/ Michael Clarke. Genius. Wasn't familiar with his other stuff... have to say the upside-down singing thing didn't do anything for me but the raw sewage show was successfully outrageous
