Victor Manuelle: C or D (like more than a handful of you have heard his songs)

Formulaic. Check. Getting worse all the time. Check. But I am listening to this Sony 20th Anniversary collection of Victor Manuelle, and I have to admit I really like some of these songs. Yes, the frequent inclusion of what sounds to me like pseudo-tango parts, and his trademark yelp (not his singing, but the little yelp he has to yell out on just about every song, to demonstrate his excitement), and in general some pretty annoying introductions, all weigh against ratings these songs highly; but if you let them play--if I let them play at, any rate--they develop and pull you in/onto the dance floor. Also, a lot of these songs bring back memories of learning to dance.

"Asi es la Mujer," "Dile a Ella," "Hay Que Poner el Alma," "He Tratado," (goofy heavy-handed) "Mentiras," etc. More classic than dud.

(Looks like I'm talking to myself again.)

Of all my salsa threads to dredge up and comment on. . .

I still think that if you can look past the flaws, some of these songs have some very nice twists to them, and Manuelle has a pretty good voice.

The chorus on this Victor Manuelle song is giving me chills. I definitely need to get myself to Rock Lobster tonight, even if it rains heavily.

Whoot for Rock Lobster!
As for good ol VM, like you said yourself, FORMULAIC. Plus I'm from Puerto Rico, so overexposure has definitely proven to be a turnoff.

These songs from his first four or so albums remind me of some of the happiest dancing moments of the last several years.
