Humpty's Blues (ala American Woman might not be the best Guess Who tune i've heard, but it sure is a nice showcase for some wailin' vocals.

What a short thread. I grew up hearing all their hits on top 40 radio, and afaik they are the perfect singles band, aside from maybe The Grass Roots, where I really don't need to hear deep cuts. "Albert Flasher" is a great later period hit, and apparently it's been added to some version of their greatest hits compilation.

"Stand Tall" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

That's silly human pride!

You've still got 8 slots in your OP10 for their future works.

Didn't know this thread existed. No order:

"Albert Flasher"
"Rain Dance"
"Hand Me Down World"
"No Time"
"8:15"
"Do You Miss Me Darlin'?"
"Coming Down Off the Money Bag"/"Song of the Dog"
"Sour Suite"

Okay, 11.

Just a thought before this thread lies dormant for another 17 years:

Randy Bachman: 7 children (including Tal 'She's So High' Bachman)
Burton Cummings: 0 children

Does this thread have any links to the story of Randy Bachman, Lenny Breau and Les Paul? I don’t see one.

lol I'll need a minute to consider the implications of this information.
"Undun" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Amazing singles band

I should have included "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon," too, and also "No Sugar Tonight"/"New Mother Nature" (a bit tired of "Sugar," "New Mother Nature" I still love). So my list is 13.

Bachman and John Einarson's semi-autobiography is full of stories like that Les Paul one, like giving a weeping Van Morrison a guitar after Van's goes missing in Cleveland.

Do you recommend that book?

The Ballad of Mel Cooley (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 2 March 2021 15:53 (five years ago)

Certainly if you're interested in him. It's about 75% history and interviews by Einarson, interspersed with 25% Bachman stories and commentary. It's not one-sided, there's criticism of Randy from bandmates and others. There's a lot of business stuff about battles over publishing contracts, and how Mercury Records broke BTO, and a lot of celebrity encounters. There's a poignancy in his sometimes troubled relationships with his family (brothers/bandmates and wives/children).
