I Just Wanna Luv You
Gangsta Lean
Belly Dancer
Nothin'
Young Fresh & New
Hot in Herre

Since this thread requires little conversation, I think we should also use it to make outrageous indie-centric suggestions as to what they should do next, like incorporate gamelan, remix Speaking In Tongues-era Talking Heads and work with Momus (of course).

Adam A. (Keiko), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm hard, so yes, I can.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Run to the Sun, Shake Ya Ass, and U dont have to call, and Like I love you definitely
Also:

Remix of "You make me wanna" Usher
"Girls Dem Sugar" Beenie Man and Mya
"Things are getting better" NERD
"Got your money" Kelis and ODB
That Air tune...

The best, however, is the "By Your Side' remix from Sade.

cybele (cybele), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

incorporating gamelan doesn't sound too far off

also, the n.e.r.d. album is their "weakest" moment, insofar as it's a precis of what they do best rather than trying out their keerazy ideas in public

anyway:

kelis - kaleidoscope
luda - "southern hospitality"
beenie man - "girls dem sugar"
fabolous - "young'n (holla back)"
phillies most wanted - "cross the border"
nore - "superthug"
clipse - "grindin (selector mix)"
p diddy - "d.i.d.d.y."
mystikal - "bouncin back"
jay-z - "give it to me (i just wanna luv u)"

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Shake Ya Ass - Mystikal
I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me) - Jay-Z
Populat Thug - Kelis
Flashback - Kelis
Stay Together - N*E*R*D
Rock Star - N*E*R*D
Grindin’ - Clipse
Nothin’ - N.O.R.E.

JoB (JoB), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

That Sade remix! Swooooon!

I haven't listened to the NERD album since I heard the shitty American version.

Adam A. (Keiko), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanna bust up all the ODB jockers who always say Got Your Money. that's a shit beat. also, can't stand Excuse Me Miss.

good recent-ish ones that haven't been mentioned:

Nore - Grimey
Jay-Z - Fuck All Nite
Baby/Clipse - What Happened To That Boy?
their version of Fatty Girl (oh man...I listened to the a cappella recently and Pharrell does the dirtiest moaning i've ever heard, which i never noticed before cos it blends in with the beat)
Beanie Man/Sean Paul/Lady Saw - Bossman
Mystikal - Bouncin' Back

Al (sitcom), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont like Jay-Z but that sprawling chorused Korgy string on 'Excuse Me Miss' is great, and Pharrell sounds good on it

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Cry Me A River

timbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

minna (minna), Saturday, 29 March 2003 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

honorable mention to that Steely Dan bridge in that No Doubt song

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 29 March 2003 03:48 (twenty-three years ago)

why did they release two versions of the album ?
i don't like anything by them at all and that just
put me off them even more

piscesboy, Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:44 (twenty-three years ago)

("From the Chuch to da Palace" - Snoop).

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:50 (twenty-three years ago)

piscesboy - the first one came out overseas in 2001, barebones production kinda, normal neptunes sound but slightly weirder (to my ears at least) - I prefer it. It was supposed to come out stateside but they withdrew and redid it, beefed up the production, lots more trad instruments, etc. This is the version that got airplay (generally, the old version of lapdance was released as a single), big hit with "rock star", etc.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mystikal - bouncin' back
mystikal - danger
clipse - grindin' (and selector remix, i'm counting these as one so there)
n.e.r.d - run to the sun
n.o.r.e - nothin'
n.o.r.e - grimey
kelis - roller rink
britney - slave 4 u (yknow, just for the whole zeitgeisty thing)
justin - senorita
uhm i dunno.. clipse - young boy

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:30 (twenty-three years ago)

CLIPSE "Grindin"
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE "Like I love you"
BRITNEY "I am a slave for you"
DAFT PUNK VS THE NEPTUNES "Harder better faster stronger"
N.O.R.E "Nothin"

Sami (Sami), Saturday, 29 March 2003 10:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Justin Timberlake, Cry Me a River
Britney, I'm A Slave 4 U
Kelis, Caught Out There

Jay-Z, Give It 2 Me
Ludacris, Southern Hospitality

P. Diddy, D.I.D.D.Y (JESS I KISS YOU)
NERD, Lapdance

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

since Minna was too vague I'll make it blunt. TIMBALAND PRODUCED CRY ME A RIVER, NOT THE NEPTUNES.

also, Hella Good was merely co-written by the Neptunes. Nelle Hooper produced it.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, and I can't do this because the Neptunes are frikkin' joke. Worst lyricists in eons.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Well then I only have 9 Neptunes songs, cos I can't think of any others.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Goddamnit ! I meant "Like I Love You", for the record

Adam A. (Keiko), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't do this because the Neptunes are frikkin' joke. Worst lyricists in eons.

no lyrics are worse then :
"Shake it once, that's fine, shake it twice that's okay.
shake it 3 times your playing with yourself again"

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

And I should've picked "Young Boy" instead of "Gangsta Lean" but they're both very good.

Adam A. (Keiko), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

And Chaki's right!

Adam A. (Keiko), Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

And I really don't get that Daft Punk thing!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 31 March 2003 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 19 December 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

Drop it like it's Hawwwwwtttt.

Roz (Roz), Monday, 19 December 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

Hardly anything except for the Snoop singles.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 19 December 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

"How u want that" by Loon, Kelis & Puffy too !

1. Noreaga-super thug

2. ODB-got your money

3. Puffy-diddy

4. Fabolous-young 'un.

5. The Clipse-virginia

6. Baby & The Clipse-what happened to that boy?

7. Noreaga-nothin'

8. Busta-as i come back

9. Snoop-from tha church to tha palace

10. Snoop, Pharrel-drop it like it's hot

ELLI$, Monday, 19 December 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

Hardly anything except for the Snoop singles.

errr..."hollaback girl" ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 19 December 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah "Hollaback Girl" and also Faith's "Going Out", but i'm seriously having difficulty thinking of anything. Compared to the avalanche of greatness between 1999 and early 2003 and that's quite odd.

"Can I Have It Like That" = worst single of the year obv.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 19 December 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Clipse, "Gangsta Lean"

poortheatre (poortheatre), Monday, 19 December 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

obvious ones:
"young fresh 'n' new"
"grindin' (selector remix)"
"rock your body"
"drop it like it's hot"
"from tha chuuuuuuuch to da palace"
"rock star" (spymob version)
"what happened to that boy?"
"belly dancer"

+ two that haven't been mentioned yet:
clipse "comedy central" (AWESOME, my fave from lord willin'. "pusha t, push a ton, push a ton of that shit that make ya nose run!" *sniff*)
nivea ft. pusha t "runaway (I wanna be with you)"

haitch (haitch), Monday, 19 December 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

shit I forgot: ODB, "cold blooded". bump the nivea for it.

tim is the problem that they haven't actually done much AT ALL (as the neptunes at least), let alone anything good? it really does feel like they've just done a track here and a track there and concentrated on doing nerd and pharrell's solo thing (bleurgh).

haitch (haitch), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Yeah that's obv a big part of it.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how we'd be regarding them if that clipse record hadn't been iced. the couple of tracks that leaked from it were pretty good.

haitch (haitch), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

true they haven't done as much as previously but the little they've done was mainly great. "drop it", "hollaback" and "signs" are much better than most other artists' best of ! ("let's get blown" is a nice laid back summer tune but not great)
has pharrell's album been released yet ? is this supposed to be as bad as "can i have it" ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 19 December 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Great tracks from 2005 :

Robin Thicke feat. Pharell - I Want To Love You Girl

Twista feat. Pharell and Jamie Foxx - When I Get You Home (AIOU)

Destiny's Child feat. Clipse - Lose My Breath ( Neptunes Remix )

Coffee and Cigarettes Guy (abu), Monday, 19 December 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

oh, and I can't do this because the Neptunes are frikkin' joke. Worst lyricists in eons.
