Hazard
Right Here Waiting
Angelina

nope, cannot even name ten Marx songs off the top of my head...

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 30 March 2003 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Hazard. Period.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 30 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha why does everyone love Hazard? It's really not that different from every other Richard Marx song.

Was Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone a Richard Marx song? That one is pretty...well, terrible, but I remembered it at least.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 30 March 2003 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

You're not talking about Glass Tiger's "Don't Forget Me", are you?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 30 March 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if I am or not!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 30 March 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"Don't Mean Nothing" is pretty good.

Does anyone remember that interview with Kieth Richards where he said Richard Marx had something interesting happening? This was after a tore George Michael a new one (the interviewer was doing a chart run-down w/ Keef). That tells you a lot about where the Stones are now.

Mark (MarkR), Sunday, 30 March 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"Keep Coming Back"

dave q, Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally: Does it go "Don't forget me when I'm gone/ My heart will break/ I have loved you for so long/ And it's all I can take"? That was one of my favourite songs when I was 7.

You've just provoked an intense bout of GT nostalgia. Ahh, "Thin Red Line", "Someday", "Diamond Sun", "I Will Be There", . . .

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, that's the song I am thinking of. That's Glass Tiger? These artists are so confusing.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, Newmarket, ON's own. It's good to know their legacy crossed the border.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh god. I think that was the first time ever I was disillusioned in a proper scales-drop-from-eyes fashion with the cathedral of lies that is the pop culture industry. Happened was, the video was about to come on and the guy mentioned about 150 times that it "featured Bryan Adams", which didn't really excite me but it was easier to leave the channel on, y'know. And then he just pops up in the end, yelling about 8 words, 3 of which were "for heaven's sake". That's supposed to be an event? This is the sort of thing we NEED to be alerted to? That was even worth releasing, never mind the premise that anybody ever needed to know about it? Something irreversibly changed in me that day

dave q, Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Some time later "Don't Mean Nothin'" came out, and I felt vindicated. "Real music is coming back. And if it must be a photocopy of the Eagles'"Good Day in Hell" then that is how it must be"

dave q, Sunday, 30 March 2003 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
"Don't Mean Nothin'"
"Endless Summer Nights"

Richard Marx fucking sucks!

Zwan (miccio), Thursday, 13 April 2006 02:17 (twenty years ago)

hahaha this rules!! all my old threads are getting revived!!

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 13 April 2006 02:19 (twenty years ago)

I think I like Richard Marx more than the Eagles.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 13 April 2006 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Richard Marx is only about a billion times better than the Eagles.

'Hazard' is fucking classic. 'Should Have Known Better' is also pretty good.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Thursday, 13 April 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

the only richard marx song i think i've heard is 'hazard'. i remember i completely loved it when it came out (when i was...8? 9?). unfortunately i can't remember how it, y'know, actually goes or anything.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 13 April 2006 10:35 (twenty years ago)

isn't there one called 'Take This Heart'? it's awful though, of course.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 13 April 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

The other morning I heard "Should've Known Better" on the radio, and aside from the typically shitty 90s production (DIE super-compressed clean guitar sounds!!!!) it was actually a much better song than I remembered! The chorus, at least, was catchy.

phil d. (Phil D.), Thursday, 13 April 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I like "Hazard" too, although when I start singing it, somehow it inevitably turns into George Michael's "Hand to Mouth."

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Thursday, 13 April 2006 11:18 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget "Edge of a Broken Heart" (or do, I don't care really).

drench, Thursday, 13 April 2006 13:28 (twenty years ago)

The other morning I heard "Should've Known Better" on the radio, and aside from the typically shitty 90s production

It was released in 1987.

His ballads are godawful, but his L.A. power-pop was pretty good. The "gritty" (albeit in a Cinemascope sort of way) "Don't Mean Nothing" sounded rather good in 1987 played after Robert Cray and Lou Gramm.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 13 April 2006 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I meant 80s. That LA production style for top 40 stuff hung on for a while, though.

phil d. (Phil D.), Thursday, 13 April 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he has ever recorded religious material, but his sound looms as large over Contemporary Christian radio as Pearl Jam's does on modern rock radio.

Patrick (Patrick), Friday, 14 April 2006 03:31 (twenty years ago)
