Now, a battle in the featherweight division....
Which of these two MOR/AOR Titans of late 80s snoozecore demi-pop do you prefer...any why?
(do not factor in Genesis or Loggins and Messina)
"Sussudio" vs "Danger Zone"; "In the Air Tonight" vs "Footloose"; "Against all Odds" vs "The Heat is On"

I don't like either, but I'll go with Kenny Loggins cuz I always think it's him doing "Holiday Road" instead of Lindsey Buckingham.

plus "The Heat Is On" is actually by Glenn Frey!

I'll take Phil because I BELIEVE him.

Glenn Frey's "The Heat Is On" should only put in a TS with Glenn's more mournful sax wail "You Belong To The City" or Bob Seger's "Shakedown", since both songs were '70s vets thumpin' Beverly Hills Cop themes.

"Against All Odds" flattens anything Kenny Loggins could ever come up with.

coem to think of it i have never seen kenny loggins in the same place as eddie rabbit. i reckon eddie is kennys country rock alter ego- or maybe their record label makes them share a beard.

a friend of mine swears that he saw phil collins come back on stage after an extended horn break/backing band jam during a gig in late 80's and from his front row vantage point spied a urine stain on the great man's pastel trousers.

now that's class.

Isn't Eddie Rabbit dead?

loggins has some good shit. phil collins is ok but he gets annoying. and 'in the air tonight' is the worst fucking song ever! ban it!

I'm a Don Henley man myself.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

phil collins, because (a) he did drum on some Brian Eno records; (b) while his solo career was largely a dud, he did have some good songs ("don't care anymore," "in the air tonight," "take me home" -- any of which kicks the ass of anything Kenny Loggins ever did); and (c) phil collins never had a mullet or a rat-tail (though that was prob. because phil collins was bald when mullets and rat-tails were "in").

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

They're both terrible, jesus. I guess if you put a gun to my head and said, "You have to listen to either Kenny or Phil or you die" I'd pick Phil, because his songs had more variety than Kenny's, although there is Danger Zone to contend with.

In the end, I'm with the Don Henley contingent though.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, Jandek shows more stylistic variety than Kenny Loggins!

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Until anybody here accomplishes anything in their life that equals "I'm Alright (theme from 'Caddyshack')" we'll have no more Loggins hatred thanx!

dave q, Monday, 31 March 2003 08:02 (twenty-three years ago)

If only for the fact that he was in the best band ever, Phil Collins wins this easily. He also did a couple of ace singles in the 80s ("Against All Odds" and "In The Air Tonight" being undenidably strong pop moments)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 31 March 2003 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

(c) phil collins never had a mullet or a rat-tail (though that was prob. because phil collins was bald when mullets and rat-tails were "in").
Subthread: Do you suspect that Collins would grow a big huge mullet if he had a full head of hair...or do you think he would find mullets to be "beneath him"?
