pauls00, Monday, 31 March 2003 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

boring answer, but that opening riff in "Complication" seals it

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 31 March 2003 02:20 (twenty-three years ago)

"complication" - no contest, that's the song i've always put on tapes. there is that one track the keyboardist sings ("i can't get over you," i think) that's kind of funny in that it sounds like goofy tuneless reggae.

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 31 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

constipation!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

"I Hate You" gets my vote, too. Do you do you do you do you know why I hate you? It's because you make me make me make me make me hate you, baby. Tale that, bitch. And call me.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 31 March 2003 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Blaring "Complication" on a boombox at work (washing dishes) got me fired when the customers complained once years ago. Nothing could have been more perfect.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Gotta go with "I Hate You".

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil, Monday, 31 March 2003 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

five months pass...
I just got a call from Thomas Edward Shaw, bassist for the Monks who wrote the book Black Monk Time. I told him I just saw his old band mate Gary Burger sing and play "Oh How To Do Now?" with the Spectors at the Spectors May 2003 reunion at First Avenue (http://babelogue.citypages.com:8080/pscholtes/2003/05/08)

Turns out Shaw worked at First Avenue and played in the house band there back in its first two years, when it was called the Depot. He was calling to get a copy of my First Avenue oral history (http://www.citypages.com/databank/24/1187/article11480.asp). I bugged him about doing another Monks reunion (they haven't since '99), but he said there was no way they'd do it, that they've been asked by the rock'n'roll hall of fame and aren't interested. I'll see if I can't bribe him.

Pete Scholtes, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

His band at the time, Copperhead, was actually the first band to play there, opening for Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
