Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 31 March 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Marble Sheep is good if it's Good Old Marble Sheep

Acid Mothers Temple & Ghost & High Rise are not to be missed live bands. & Ruins most of all, but I guess they might not be in "jap psych" category?

I got to check out that Up-Tight stuff, the blurb was so over the top good I was afraid it would sound like it was recorded with a pie plate

autovac (autovac), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't know if I could pick 10 songs, but I might be able to pick 10 bands. Let's see...

Acid Mothers Temple
Rallizes Denudes
Mainliner
High Rise
Nagisa Ni Te
Ohkami no Jikan
Maher Shalal Hash Baz
Fushitsusha
Musica Transonic
the Mops
Angel'In Heavy Syrup

OK - so that's 11... ooops

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

hey why not? 11, 10...its all good

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 31 March 2003 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

the first up-tight cd is pretty good. they don't really thrash out like a lot of jap*-psych bands but have a slower, ghostly vibe to it that only really compares to the mellow/morose rallizes material or leningrad blues machine.

* oh, no - i said "jap." it's world war 2 all over again.

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

alright, revised list:

blues creation - just i was born
white heaven - blind promise
flower traveling band - satori part one
leningrad blues machine - russian asshole
overhang party - la fie'vre
broomdusters - 23 hrs 30 min (part 2)
angel'in heavy syrup - fate
the jacks - marianne
cosmic invention - laoshorai (or ghost - guru in the echo)
kousokuya - breaking suffering song

left off rallizes because everyone knows they're great, left off some of the stuff i don't really think of as psych per se (fushitsusha, taj mahal travellers, east bionic symphonia, nagisa ni te, maher shalal hash baz). che-shizu too, though the new one (glimmering star) is amazing drone/dream/rock/folk that more than makes up for how spotty _nazareth_ was.

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 02:18 (twenty-three years ago)

you don't fushitsusha are psych!

(I mean, I know there's more going on there bt still...)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 08:08 (twenty-three years ago)

it's kind of arbitrary, but i don't really think of them as psych-rock... but then i have kousokuya and broomdusters on that list, so what the fuck. they're from a scarier, deeper place - psychedelic, but more in the 'drugged, blindfolded and dragged into a cave and exposed to the mysteries' sort of way.

''they're from a scarier, deeper place - psychedelic, but more in the 'drugged, blindfolded and dragged into a cave and exposed to the mysteries' sort of way.''

sorry you're talking abt fushitsusha or kousokuya? (i guess the former).

yeah, I see what you're talking abt. but i think the starting point is psych rock...but yes, they've taken it somewhere else.

suishou no fune is pretty a great psych combo = 水晶の舟

saw them about 6 months ago and thought they had a darker/biker/black leather style psych approach.

hey, you know what needs to happen? a shitload of white heaven reissues, that's what. listening to strange bedfellow (from mutant sounds) and it has some smoking stuff on it. some cool mellow stuff too. doesn't have kurihara on it, apparently, but his replacement throws down well enough.

also, overhang party reissues would be good. somebody get on this.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

Artist: WHITE HEAVEN
Title: Levitation..Plus
Format: LP
Label: Farside
Country:
Price: $38.00
"All time Japanese noise/psych classic rarity. Limited, numbered edition of 300 copies on 180 gram. Reissued with 1 bonus track. Cult guitarist Michio Kurihara and crew, created this awesome psychedelic cranium damaging noise masterpiece in Tokyo 1988. It was originally released as a 700 only LP release that sold out instantly thereby rendering it instant cult status with a scarcity value that beggars belief. This has to be the most sought after album of its genre and makes Les Rallizes Denudes look positively commonplace and as we all know, they are NOT! With a Quicksilver-Lysergic damaged sound, this band has to be heard, and here you have possibly the last chance to do this." - Farside. Restocked.

^^ only one i've heard. expensive, but recommended. some of the tracks are more mellow than i was hoping though, TBH.

ian, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

Also, in my list from last week I can't believe I forgot "Martha" by Kamijo!

ian, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

(which may be too mellow for many of those reading this thread.)

ian, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)
