Ry Cooder - "Paris, Texas"

willem (willem), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

My disco box set, but it's okay since I just bought the same one JBR has mentioned.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
Dandy Warhols - Dandys Rule OK (have lost multiple copies that way)
Yo La Tengo - Electr-O-pure (lent to a DDB in order to impress him, didn't work, he didn't even like it, but still, I never saw it again.)

kate, Monday, 31 March 2003 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Drum and Bass Strip to the Bone by Sly & Robbie with Howie B.

Lucky I copied it first.

mei (mei), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I lent the first two Eddie Money albums to this kid in 7th grade. I never saw them again... but who knows how I would have turned out if I had had Eddie Money to listen to.

On the other hand. I borrowed Lou Reed's "Take No Prisoners" from someone in 9th grade and have had it ever since. I'd say I came out ahead overall.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yo La Tengo - "I can hear the heart beating as one"
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - "Orange"

Both to the same MF... I still got his Swell CD, not a fair trade though.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Kiss - "Destroyer", lent it to my best friend in 8th Grade, never saw it again. This was doubly disappointing, since it was the first album I bought with money earned by serving as an altar boy (weddings and funerals tipped great).

largehearted boy (largeheartedboy), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

One of my ex-girlfriend's made off with 2 Soul Coughing CDs, 3 Beastie Boys CDs, 3 Miles Davis CDs, Roni Size Reprazent, both of my Gravediggaz albums, and 2 Pharcyde CDs. I miss all of 'em (all of 'em I haven't re-acquired since then, at least).

so,um,there's hope for you all...

robin (robin), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Mad Professor/ Massive Attack - No Protection
...was borrowed 5-6 years ago, by a really decent couple ...who then broke up, after which each of them kept telling me for awhile that on the other side of the town there's that flat where my rekkid is sitting very safely & cosily on some safe & cosy shelf...

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

summerslastsound (summerslastsound), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

The last Fugazi, Godspeed ...Skinny Fists... and YLT And Then Nothing etc etc.

By a weird if largely uninteresting coincidence, while I was typing that someone texted me about the latter playing London in May. Anyone going?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Man, everybody's stealing Yo La Tengo albums! Who would've thought their fans were such criminals?

I lent a friend The Ex's Dizzy Spells and his stereo got jacked along with a bunch of cds including that one. My friend didn't even like it but maybe the thief is rockin it right now.

original bgm, Monday, 31 March 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I have never lent or borrowed any records. However I did once lend an excellent Batman book to my old friend Peter, which had several major key Batman stories from 1939 to 1990 reprinted inside, and never got that back. I miss that.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

JVC Force, Strong Island (stolen by an ex-roommate)

ABC, "The Look of Love Part 2/Part 3" (remixes, bought in 1982, my brother lost it)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Sparked by the recent Wire cover story, I went looking for my copy of Faust's Rien and couldn't find it. Only then did I vaguely remember loaning it to someone--I don't remember who--and, well, you can guess the rest . . .

Lee G (Lee G), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

25 O'Clock by the Dukes of Stratosphear and Abba Gold by Abba

Apotheosis - "O Fortuna"

Yes, I'm still pissed about this ten years after the fact.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Only 1- Sonic Youth "Dirty" in the 11th grade. But I kept the girl's prom dress she let me borrow to fight back. I am overly protective of records and will not let people borrow them usually.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 31 March 2003 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh shit Dan I'm sorry!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 31 March 2003 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a minute I've got it! Acid 2.0 + downloaded mp3 of "Carmina Burana" = better than the original!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 31 March 2003 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Queen's Greatest Hits and The Simpsons Sing The Blues on cassette - first and last time I lent anything to someone whose address I didn't actually know. After this I only lent to friends, whose houses I could just walk into to retrieve borrowed items. Usually though, the only stuff they'd want to borrow were unwanted birthday CDs [MuchMusic Dance Mix '96] which I'd happily GIVE to them. Apart from this, a roommate stole some CDs (2 Unlimited, Beck, Odds, two more Queen, Blur selftitled) and the only one I've bothered replacing was the Blur (and that only last week). But what rankled about this was I'd just sold one of the Queen on eBay and had to go get another copy to send to the buyer. Luckily I found one used, so I still made a $2 profit.

Poppy (poppy), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think this has happened to me. I, however, have kept other people's records that I have borrowed, because I'm a forgetful piece of shit. A good friend of mine loaned me Killing Joke's 'Democracy' and 'Pandemonium'. I've had them going on 10 years now and he's not getting them back.

Also, I let an ex-girlfriend borrow 'Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' Greatest Hits', and I haven't got it back since we stopped dating. But that was my brother's, so it doesn't really count for the purposes of this thread.

justin s., Monday, 31 March 2003 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Nevermind

Then he got all guilty 'cause he'd scratched the CD to shit, promised to buy me a new copy, then showed up with a 26er of dark rum instead, then proceeded to drink probably 90% of it.

He's my buddy, though. Whaddya do?

David A. (Davant), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I lent my Jack Kerouac box set to a woman I was keen on. That was 1992 and I haven't seen her since. Fortunately, the entire set can be summed up in three lines:

Chahlie Parker
looked
like Buddah!

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I lent Modest Mouse's "Lonesome Crowded West" to the co-host of my radio show back in school. Her boyfriend at then time, a recovering heroin addict, had a relapse and ended up cleaning out her apartment one weekend while she was away. He stole pretty much everything, pawning it for drug money. I told her not to worry about replacing the CD. Oh, and they broke up.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Did he ever get the monkey off his back?

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Fun Lovin' Crim's first, Dummy, Dog Man Star, Licensed To Ill. Replaced Dummy, getting Ill back tomorrow after a year. Not arsed with the other two.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Stereolab "Dots and Loops"
Stereolab "Cobra & Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night"
Stereolab, "First of the Microbe Hunters"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a little off topic, but...Years and years ago, I was mugged at three in the morning by 3 guys here in Philly and they went through my pockets looking for anything good-I was pretty drunk, so I didn't really care that much-One guy pulls out a tape I had on me of Hawkwind's Space Ritual and looks at it-I screamed,"NO! I NEED THAT!!"-He handed it back to me and they took off with whatever money I'd been carrying.

Scott Seward, Monday, 31 March 2003 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone borrowed the dismemberment plan a year ago and it travelled three states over to alabama, traded hands repeatedly and eventually a stranger gave it back to me who was contracting where I work. The dude mentioned he knew the guy and then said that he "had left this piece of shit in his car". So I said "thats my piece of shit!" and he gave it back to me

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark, I think he went to jail for a spell. Then, my co-host graduated, and I never really found out about her ex-boyfriend. My replacement copy of "Lonesome Crowded West" was stolen a few months later. I was in Toronto to see Modest Mouse and my car was broken into.
Best thing that ever happened to me.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Dag Nasty - Can I Say (vinyl)- Rick Z. I know you have my album!
Queen - Jazz (vinyl) no idea where that one went, but all I really miss is the fucking POSTER!
Hot Tuna - Burgers (vinyl) no idea who got that
Ian Hunter - You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic (vinyl) again, no idea
Hüsker Dü - New Day Rising (cassette) This was in my car when it was stolen. I guess you could say someone borrowed it...

Davlo (Davlo), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:06 (twenty-three years ago)

My copy of Definitely Maybe disappeared somewhere in 1997. Never really looked for it. My copies of Hunky Dory and some Manics album or other got lent to my sister and are now forever lost in The Boxes You Put Things In When You Move House; the problem being Which One.

Not seen Dare by the Human League, Closer by Joy Division or a Mission of Burma live album for a while but I'm 40-50% optimistic I may again someday.

Ferg (Ferg), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:28 (twenty-three years ago)

"Everything Streamlined" by Corm
"The Tyranny of Distance" by Ted Leo

I kind of miss the first one, and am going to re-buy the second one.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:47 (twenty-three years ago)

half of "Zero Accidents on the Job (Luaka Bop first 10 years)"... only the second disc was returned.

order some disorder, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:55 (twenty-three years ago)

all my friends know the risks involved in borrowing cds from me. after a month of not having it i start to get real cranky. in hindsight i have, in the past, come down on some people incredibly hard - but that's why certain friends are dysallowed from borrowing records now.
but i always get them back.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm allegedly getting my copy of REM'S reveal back (not that I miss it), but I'm still pissed off my copy of the Vital Idol video compilation was snatched from me back in high school. I only got to watch it twice. Sniff....

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Well i lent my friend my original Fame L.p sountrack i fell out with her in high school and never got it back, i also lent her my vannilla ice and my Billy Joel and my thats what i call music, pretty crummy frien huh?

Sophie Ellis, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Sex Packets! arrrgh

Honda (Honda), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Some dimwitted jock I lived with my freshman year of college left at the end of the year with my copy of Tricky's Maxinquaye. He ended up dropping out of school; I never saw him again.

A guy I haven't seen in three years supposedly still has my Blonde Redhead, Mia Vita Violenta. He also owes me $30 for Dirty Three tickets for him and his girlfriend, from March 2000.

I haven't replaced either CD. I miss the Blonde Redhead more than the Tricky, but only because I have all their other CDs and I'm constantly reminded of the missing one.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I leant someone I know/knew my copy of "Cheech and Chong Go Up in Smoke" on VHS.

Then he moved.

To prison.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a Cool Cool Christmas. That XFM compilation with the belle&sebastian song, and grandaddy's "alan parsons in a winter wonderland". argh

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

My copies of Big Black's Atomizer and the first Golden Paliminos both disappeared into the hands of DAN LITTLETON OF IDA!! I'M CALLIN' YOU OUT, SENSITIVE INDIE POP IDOL!!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

at least you got a decent story out of it. it's not like i can go around thrilling the ladeez with my incredible tales of having my ex-bandmate jack my copy of MMW - Combustication. "yeah, but you know girls... it kind of sucked, so i really don't mind him keeping it. that's the kind of generous guy i am"

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Dunno. I have sold most of them, but there are some Norwegian CDs that the used shop I use doesn't want to receive because they already have 10-15 of it in their stock. Probably one of those...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmmm... I substituted the word "would" for "have" obviously.

However, my copy of "Meddle" was borrowed from me in 1994 and I still haven't got it bad. (borrowed it from the library and burnt myself a copy in the meantime...)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)
