The Offspring To Release 'Chinese Democracy'.
Multi-platinum Sony artists THE OFFSPRING are recording their new disc with producer BRENDAN O'BRIEN in Los Angeles. The album is titled 'CHINESE DEMOCRACY', which also happens to be the title of the long-awaited GUNS N ROSES album, currently in limbo. When reached for comment, The Offspring's front man/vocalist, DEXTER HOLLAND, said "You snooze, you lose." Holland further added, "AXL [ROSE] ripped-off my braids, so I ripped-off his album title." 'Chinese Democracy', The Offspring's seventh album, is scheduled for release in early summer. It follows CONSPIRACY OF ONE, also produced by O'Brien.

I actually find this very funny if true.

>The Offspring's seventh album

They released 6 previous albums!?

fletrejet, Monday, 31 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

From what I understand, The Offspring meant it as a joke. Axl sent them a cease-and-desist letter anyway.

Offspring should count themselves lucky just to be mentioned in the year 2003.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I really don't like this band, but "You snooze, you lose" is 400% CLASSIXOR

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Holland further added, "AXL [ROSE] ripped-off my braids, so I ripped-off his album title."

I wish I could like their music, that Dexter (he's got a PhD in something, something weird like marine biology or s'um, can't remember what exactly) is a funny fucker sometimes (remember the T-shirt awhile back that said "EVEN JESUS HATES SCOTT STAPP"? classick!).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

This is wonderful. If it turns out to be true, I may actually give the Offspring a listen.

maria b (maria b), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you copyright the title of a record?
I know that titles of books are fair game.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Monday, 31 March 2003 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't The D.O.C. rip the title Helter Skelter off of Dr.Dre way back when and burn a bridge in the process.

Truthfully, the gag sounds like a desperate plea for relevance.

And titles of movies seem to be OK to duplicate as well. There's at least three movies called Mad Love that I can think of off the top of my head.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Monday, 31 March 2003 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I think 'You Snooze You Lose' was supposed to be the subtitle of the album, but then they said it was a joke after Rose sent his threatening legal letter. And yeah, that's so funny I wish they weren't shit.

I'll never forgive these guys for Original Pranksta. But I'm debating buying Americana.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Americana is pretty good. Conspiracy of One was a real dropoff in quality imo

MS: Yeah, Family Guy’s just not a show I like. It’s funny, when we did that [Family Guy parody] show, it was more to point out that the similarities between our two shows is that they’re animated, and it stops there. They feel like very different shows. Family Guy, to comedy people, it’s kind of what that band the Offspring is to real punk rockers.

I was going to start an Offspring thread today. I heard "Gone Away" on the radio, and it's got a great chorus. And I remember at age 18 loathing that song "Self Esteem" more than I'd ever hated anything. But now I like even that song! Have I gone mad, or grown up, or what?

weren't offspring a real punk band before they were a fake punk band?

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

I don't know -- I wouldn't trust anyone from a flyover state's opinion about punk rock though

despite the lame analogy, i understand what he's saying. doesn't change the fact that I can count on one hand how many times i've genuinely lol'd at SP

My sister likes this show. Sigh.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

I have avoided mentioning being from Rhode Island as to not talk to imbeciles about Family Guy.

emm, the first three seasons of Family Guy were solid.
