"It's Raining Men," maybe?

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 31 March 2003 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

originally I was thinking Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, etc. all the other "support our tuh-roooops!" country stars but Rummy doesn't seem very down home, I bet he doesn't dig "country."

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 31 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

"What's on my Walkman? This blood, which seems to have come from nowhere...it's everywhere! Out, damned spot!"

"Oskar Tennis Champion" by Momus. DUH!

Fear - "Let's Have a War" from the Repo Man soundtrack. Rummy was Dick Rude in a former life.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

The Rummer listens exclusively to a strict audio diet of solo Feargal Sharkey.

Probably he listens to something that would scare the shit out of you, like Dick Cheney

I'm thinking it's more like "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" , "My Girl" "Total Eclipse of the Heart" , "Footloose" ... He hasn't a care in the world.

Off topic a little, but did anyone ever verify the news item that George W. Bush is a fan of Television Marquee Moon?

Paula G., Monday, 31 March 2003 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

how could that possible be true?

j fail (cenotaph), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Off topic a little, but did anyone ever verify the news item that George W. Bush is a fan of Television Marquee Moon?

I just can't imagine it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think he digs much music. I read he was asked during the election what his favorite albums were, and he said the latest from George Strait and Alan Jackson (I forgot the titles). Gore was askeed the same thing, and he said "Rubber Soul", "Revovler", and "Highway 61 Revisited".

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Donald Rumsfeld probably listens to Wagner and Orff.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, I'm obviously wrong about the Television thing. I've been googling like crazy and can't find anything about this news item that I thought I read somewhere. Maybe it wasn't Television. But I'm sure I did read something about Bush having mentioned some highly highly unlikely album as being something he liked. I stored the information as "marquee moon" but um oops sorry. I doubt I made the whole thing up, though. Racking brain, racking brain...

Paula G., Monday, 31 March 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Wagner and Orff = totally OTM. also that dreadful Clint Black pro-war song that goes 'i raq and i roll' or whatevah

geeta (geeta), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Orff cries.

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

also that dreadful Clint Black pro-war song that goes 'i raq and i roll' or whatevah

He was told to say that by the same handler who handed Shania Twain that Ramones tour shirt.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

not Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds (smaller, lighter force makes appeals to prior demand and finds fierce indifference) nor Sting (smaller, more arrogant force finds international acclaim despite grimaces from previous supporters) but probably something like the Billy Idol Unplugged, i.e. former heavyweight tries stripped-down thing years too late and comes off like a putz

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

(Sterling's post, upthread-ish -- that t'ing up there kinda looks like the right kinda cover for a Rumsfeld-kinda rekkid)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe Jennifer Capriati advised Bush and Rummy to listen to "B.O.B."

Yeeeaah...sometimes I suspect that the ONLY thing Republicans listen to.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

DMX. Rusmfeld is hardcore and you know it, he needs that me-against-the-world kick.

Bob Roberts - 'The times they are a-changing back'

Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne. 'cuz nobody understands Donald.

How about Louis Armstron's "Hello Dolly"?

I mean, his name is Donald after all... :-)

the Merzbox

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 09:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Smashing Pumpkins, clearly. Indestructible arrogance and self-belief masquerading as victimhood...

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, you're mean.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Jacob does have a point. I suspect underneath that stern, unsmiling, joyless, quasi-amish exterior beats the heart of someone who thinks he's Lord Byron.
Hmmm....Maybe he's into Morrissey.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to think he listens to Richard Pryor albums. I mean, it's obvious that that's where he learned his delivery, no?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:01 (twenty-three years ago)

More like Stephen Wright

Raveonettes: working within a severely curt-tailed arsenal, comes up with an attack that sounds fantastic at first and gradually loses steam somewhere in the middle

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

"Eye of the Tiger", "One Vision" and of course "The Glory of Love"

Aaron A., Tuesday, 1 April 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

"Eye of the Tiger", "One Vision" and of course "The Glory of Love"

Add "Born In The USA", except - like Ronald Reagan - he still hasn't quite got what the lyrics are actually about.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I love it when dumb ppl only listen to the chorus.
I mean really...when a song starts out....

Born down in a dead man's town/
The first kick I got is when I hit the ground/
You end up like a dog thats been beat too much/
Then you spend half your life tryin' to cover it up

....I know the first thing I think is "Wow, this song is more upbeat and patriotic than anything that hack, Lee Greenwood woulda thought up.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 11:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Conversely, I also favor the death penalty to any shmook who tells the DJ to dedicate REM's "The One I Love" to his girlfriend.
I'm sure his girl appreciates a song whose chorus declares that she is "Just a simple prop/ to occupy my time"
How romantic.
