If I were to take some time and try and figure this conundrum out, I wouldn't be looking in rock (guitars and all that) for the 21st century Deep Purple, but probably in techno. Aren't those riffs (and tones) in "Highway Star" and "Smoke on the Water" fairly instrumental in the development of techno? Problem is, I wouldn't know where to begin looking. Leftfield?

there are some add n to x songs that remind me of deep purple. same maniacal tempo. There was one other group whose video i saw once and they reminded me of D.P. too, cuz they had these insane keyboard runs: green nuns of the revolution? is that right? I could be wrong on the name cuz it's been years, but i really liked that one song.
