Best recording of a band completely hijacked by studio musicians evah! (side one anyway) Are there any other acts (monkees aside) where studio musicians pushed aside the band themselves and the band remained only in name and sleeve photos

who's on "medication" and "it's all over now baby blue" - the dylan cover in particular I've always loved

medication was a session vocal but baby blue is all watchband (I'm 95% sure)

Didn't the Sweet work, like, the other way around or something? (Meaning, studio musicians played on their EARLY albums, with "Little Willy" and "Wig Wam Bam" and etc.?) Or did I just dream that?

...but the Monkees did end up playing. Headquarters is a corker imo...whereas the live bootleg, erm, isn't.

I think the 1st couple of Byrds records were mostly session people, and they're fabulous. I prefer 5D and Younger Than Yesterday though. Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde is a great underrated Byrds rekkid, IMO...

I've heard the same about the first two Byrds records, w/the exception of Jim McGuinn's guitar. Or Roger. Whatever he was going by..

Also, there's much talk of Love being unable to play on "Forever Changes" and replaced by sessioneers, but I've also heard this denied. Don't know.

I'm pretty sure that was the case, since the band sorta assembled from other bands and were half-stitched together for things like the ultra-twee "Lollipop Man." But the brief bio here isn't forthcoming.

Monkees' Head, Piscies Aquarius, and Headquarters were all excellent, IMHO. Head is a quintessential piece of psychedelia. And the live version of "Circle Sky" is tremendous...
