A miserable band - possibly emo - sounds like a sick flaming lips - has unintentionally hilarious song titles like: A NICE FAMILY DINNER FOR *ONCE* and Out come the knives ... possibly the shittiest thing i've ever been sent and people request for me to take it off when it is played. Who is this band that I speak of?

Radiohead?

The Paper Chase on Southern Records.

five years pass...

Late 90s US light hip hop act with two or three rappers and a female vocalist who did the choruses and was a bit on the chunky side. A little like a less high energy BEP, maybe. Had one reasonably sized UK hit which was slightly wistful and spooky sounding.

Not much to go on, sorry. This is bugging me.

I think you're thinking of Spooks, they had a hit with Things I've Seen and then another one called Karma Hotel, both were a bit wistful and eerie-sounding.

Yep, those guys. Thanks.

seven years pass...

Early to mid 2000s female-fronted lo-fi indie band. Had maybe only 2 or 3 albums. She almost sounds a little bit like Mark E Smith and the production kind of reminds me of Youthmovies. Maybe she has red hair? Or there is red on the cover... I think they are quite acclaimed for one album.

Anyone?

It certainly is punk of the Church of England to think that way (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:37 (nine years ago)

If it helps, inspired by me playing Hood's 'The Lost You' at tt

Oh, it was Life Without Buildings! Just the one album. My description may not have been entirely accurate...
