Dexy's Midnight Runners Reform

After 17 years, and a disastrous - if memorable - attempted comeback by the band’s frontman Kevin Rowland, Dexy's Midnight Runners have announced they will be reforming for a UK tour later this year.

While the image of Rowland clad in a disturbingly revealing white mini dress back in the late ‘90s remains burnt on to the retinas of a nation, the tunes of his ex-outfit, the mighty Dexy's Midnight Runners are still remembered fondly. And as such, news that the band are reforming should be embraced.

The band will be playing a full UK theatre tour during October and November, but Xfm Online can confirm that the band (which so far includes original members Rowland, Pete Williams and violinist Lucy Morgan) will be playing a London show at the Royal Festival Hall on November 10.

While the group insist they will be playing their hit singles, don’t expect it to be a simple as that.

"Don't expect a revival, because you will be disappointed.” Rowland has been quoted as saying by DiS, “We intend to bring a theatrical edge to the whole show... we will be doing at least a couple of new songs and we will be putting a new perspective on the whole thing. A lot of the album tracks will be re-appraised to make them relevant to us, and, I believe, the audience, now."

The band were famous for numerous image changes throughout their three album and eight year career, and will reportedly be showcasing a new look courtesy of Rowland and Mark Powell (tailor for Dan MacMillan, Ant and Dec and bizarrely Ronnie Kray).

The band will also be releasing a new greatest hits album in September. This will include the two, now obligatory new tracks 'Manhood' and 'My Life In England (Part One)' which are both scheduled for single releases. A new biography of the band, entitled 'Let's Make This Precious' is also set to be published by Virgin books.

I'm just hoping they get Kevin Eldon involved in some shape or form - he sure as hell deserves it.

DMR vs Great White

Who's Kevin Eldon, Charlie?

I'd like to see the Projected Passion Revue era band reassembled but that's a pipe dream (I hear KR and Big Jimmy are no longer in contact). Billy has to be there if they're to do much of the "DSMD" stuff, I'd have thought.

I bought my ticket! 4th row!

Who's Kevin Eldon, Charlie?

Well, he's this man: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/david.patrick/quinlank.gif

He (and the rest of the cast) did a totally fucking genius reinterpretation of Dexy's aforementioned "Let's Make Things Precious", while dressed as Frankenstein's Monster, on frequently splendid UK comedy series "Big Train".

Made me fall in love with DMR properly for the first time. Late I know, but still.
