I tuned Tricky out around the time of The Fifth Element.

ham on rye (ham on rye), Thursday, 19 June 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

it's better than 'blowback'.

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Thursday, 19 June 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That seems like a perfectly valid ain't to me

Adam A. (Keiko), Thursday, 19 June 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

there is something unbelievably boring about listening to tricky's album therapy towards becoming a normally functioning social being. i liked him better when he was a freak and stood by it.

Jay K (Jay K), Thursday, 19 June 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't like the album at all.
i don't like him since abgels with dirty faces, if that explains anything.

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 19 June 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Tricky is one of those people who get so much worse with each consecutive release that you actually begin to question why you even liked the early stuff (assuming you did), kinda like REM in a way

dave q, Thursday, 19 June 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I pretty much dismissed it at first.

But actually it has grown on me somewhat. I think it might be quite good.

Ben Williams, Thursday, 19 June 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i think i might give it a few more listens then (maybe next week).
that doesn't happen to me with REM, dave. i don't like them as i used to, but they're still consistently bearable. unlike tricky.

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 19 June 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem for Tricky is that he has moved on, but his audience hasn't. I think this new album is more likely to appeal to people who like No Doubt and Linkin Park than to people who grew up on Massive Attack and read Ian Penman on tricknology. (Maybe one reason it's growing on me is because I have never really listened to Linkin Park and No Doubt; maybe someone more knowledgeable would laugh at that comparison.) Anyway, it attacks pretty hard. Certainly more interesting to hear than more downbeat moodiness.

Ben Williams, Thursday, 19 June 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

PLus it has a cover of Love Cats, so how bad can it be?

Ben Williams, Thursday, 19 June 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The Love Cats cover is terrible.

adam (adam), Thursday, 19 June 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

That's fascinating. Thanks for that information. I have completely changed my mind now.

Ben Williams, Thursday, 19 June 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

It has a Love Cats cover?!?!?!?!? Suddenly I fear hearing this album.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lovecats cover is fantastic! if that's anything to go by, this albums seems promising.
Some of my fave Tricky moments are on 'Juxtapose', although album wise is awfull inconsistent. But 'For Real" is Tricky's high point so far

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Thursday, 19 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That's fascinating. Thanks for that information. I have completely changed my mind now.

No problem.

adam (adam), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan to thread! This might actually be pretty cool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Only the DanandNed hivemind could think this.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 19 June 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

*bows* Why thank you. We also both agree that the Cure Trilogy DVD is one of the greatest creations of art ever.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

he should've done One Minute Lovecat < /predictable>

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

scott seward, Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i lost a lot of respect for him when i read that he wanted to collaborate with the red hot chili peppers

robin (robin), Thursday, 19 June 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope this doesn't mean you've lost respect for George Clinton

(and Matt Groening)
