Annie Lennox, "Pavement Cracks"

The pop single that makes you feel like dying seems a rare creature lately - probably it comes & goes in phases, I'd need to spend some downtime with ten or twenty years' worth of charts to know for sure. Anyhow, this is one if there ever was one: just incredibly, deeply sad.

Which makes it so ideally suited for summer that words fail me.

I wanna hear this (I've missed a lot of good singles this year). Especially if it has the line "and Stephen don't wanna see Spiral Stairs no MOOOOOOOOOOREEEEEE."

I like the song, I love the vocals, I hate the production.

Annie Lennox would be so much better if she would just abandon the adult contemporary strings and the bad drum sounds. Real instrumentation would compliment her voice so much more.

I knew this was a Darn1elle thread.

The whole album is deeply sad - Pavement Cracks is a great single, though.... pretty haunting.

TS: "Pavement Cracks" vs Duran Duran's "Cracks In The Pavement".

Actually, I really like this too. Haunting's the word - sounds like she's finally managed to pull the right emotional strings again, which "Diva" totally failed to do for me, let alone "Peace".

I loved Diva, but she hasn't done anything of any worth with Dave Stewart since the 'Savage' album, IMO.

'Medusa', though, was terrible.
