Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 21 June 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm panting/sweating/gasping in anticipation.

todd burns (toddburns), Saturday, 21 June 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You aren't the only one panting/gasping/sweating -- I imagine Ralf und Florian are wheezing to the finish line of the big race on this one themselves.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 21 June 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm annoyed. Just do a record! Many, MANY people have accomplised this feat!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 21 June 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

so this is a new album of new unreleased songs?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 June 2003 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay Mr. Julio "I don't read Pitchfork" Desouza. Just for you:
The full album will be preceded on July 8th (July 7th in Europe) by the EP for "Tour de France 03", which is an entirely new song based on the original tune and written to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the French bicycle race. The EP's release date is set to coincide with the race itself, which starts on July 5th.

The press release for the single suggests that this new Kraftwerk music will provide "a soundtrack to the race" and inspire "feelings of drama, excitement and intensity." The album Tour de France will include not only all the "03" mixes from the single, but a new version of the original "Tour de France" and some new compositions.

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 21 June 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i am excited, esp. as 'Tour De France' has just sounded so perfect to me in the last year anyway (since i heard it on a boat party on the Thames at night and i was looking at the flashing lights of the Dartford Bridge twinkling in the distance)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 21 June 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: waiting for the 1st kraftwerk record in 20 years v. waiting for the 1st MBV record in 10 years

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 21 June 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

As the world's biggest Kraftwerk fan it was my sincere wish that they would never make another record ever again - why ruin perfection Ralf?

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 22 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

Maybe this has already been posted but in any case - truly amazing:

At first, I thought, that's just Tour De France live, what's the... but then the fourth minute happened! WOWOWOWOWOW!

StanM, Friday, 3 July 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

Man, am so jealous of anyone that got to go to the Steve Reich / Kraftwerk gig yesterday

Tannenbaum Schmidt, Friday, 3 July 2009 14:11 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah!!!! the fourth minute!! Awesome.

Shame that they cant create this when I see them Bestival

Tannenbaum Schmidt, Friday, 3 July 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

I was there - it was A+++ fantastic, when the cyclists came out the whole place went fucking nuts. They did some first class showing off too, mimicking the graphic equaliser display on the stage and "look mum no hands" riding to get the audience clapping along. I'd never seen Kraftwerk live before, and was v. impressed - the contrast between the simplicity and beauty of Autobahn etc and the latter part of the show with 3D insanity and pounding beats was so good. I really enjoyed the Steve Reich piece too, although its complexity was a bit lost in the venue and incessant chatter from the crowd during didn't help.

Bill A, Friday, 3 July 2009 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

Can't stand for people frontin' and being disrespectful to Steve Reich

Tannenbaum Schmidt, Friday, 3 July 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

twelve years pass...

I saw them live on Saturday. The track that really fucking killed was "Tour de France Étape 2". That's such an eternal techno hook. And then "Part 3" with that shiny melody on top. At the time I thought this stuff was overly repetitive but it's different from "Autobahn" how exactly? It is also perhaps the most perfect biking music ever made. Now I'm listening to the full album and finding I massively underrated it.
