So many great ones... These are among my absolute faves, but I left out a lot. In my opinion you should just get all of his albums, especially Gone To Earth and Secrets Of The Beehive. Haven't heard his new one yet.

Ghosts (Japan, Tin Drum or Everything And Nothing (with redone vocals))
Riverman (actually both the studio version on Gone To Earth and the live version on Damage are fantastic, and very different too)
The Devil's Own (Secrets Of The Beehive)
Every Colour You Are (Rain Tree Crow)
The First Day (live, on Damage)
Blinding Light Of Heaven (live, on Damage)
Krishna Blue (Dead Bees On A Cake)
The Shining Of Things (Dead Bees On A Cake)
Ride (Everything And Nothing)
Come Morning (Everything And Nothing)

There's a lovely live version of Orpheus on his website.

Definitely:

Bamboo Houses
Ghosts
Ink in The Well
Orpheus
Ride
Forbidden Colours

It really depends on what you are doing tonight (besides listening to Sylvian songs) -- but here are ten songs that I'm fond of, that you might like too.

1) When the Poets Dreamed of Angels
2) Swing
3) Ink In the Well
4) Visions of China
5) In Vogue
6) Maria
7) River Man
8) Jean The Birdman
9) Adolescent Sex
10) Nostalgia

jacksunjackson, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

sides three and four of gone to earth. they may not, if i remember correctly, actually feature david sylvian but as they're on a david sylvian solo album.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Exclusively David Sylvian solo material here (i.e. no Japan, though I'm about as obsessed with Japan as I am with Duran Duran):

"Nostalgia"
"The Ink in the Well"
"Orpheus"
"Let the Happiness In"
"Jean the Birdman"
"God's Monkey"
"I Surrender"
"Wanderlust"
"Cover Me With Flowers"
"Midnight Sun"

Plus you'll need to add the obvious "Red Guitar", of course.

*sighs* Oh my God, I love David Sylvian. I think I'll have to listen to Sylvian exclusively for the next week or so now. Just because I need some quiet relaxation in my life.

three weeks pass...
Reviving just to encourage EVERYONE here to check out the track David Sylvian recorded last year with Chris Vrenna, i.e. tweaker, "Linoleum", if you haven't already. (Make sure it's the slower, rock version of the track, though! You CAN just dl it off the Internet -- a simple Web search will reveal where you can.) OMG, I have had this on my HD for about eight or so months and after a bit of prompting HAVE JUST NOW checked it out. OMG, musical HEAVEN! The bit where the guitar and David Sylvian's vocals intertwine... *sighs*

*goes off all giddy and fangirl-like*
