Pretty good sound quality, and interesting from a Love fan's point of view: how the band obviously honed his songs and made them poppier / accentuated the hooks. Sadly, what we have here is the raw material later to be made great by the other musicians/arrangers, and on his own, Bryan sounds a bit like a low-rent Tim Buckley.
This was surprising to me, as his songs on the Love LPs are among my favourites, but like I say, without the band he flails around with stretched out overlong song structures and melodramatic crescendos.
However 'ifyoubelievein' is worth getting solely for 'barber john', a song rejected from the Forever Changes sessions, where you can see past the convoluted folk singer delivery to moments of jocular greatness.
