I saw on an old Love thread someone mention MacLean's solo album. Are the only things available the home demo type collections on Sundazed and are they really good?

afaik the only ones available are the sundazed demo collections. (I could be wrong there, though)

Pretty good sound quality, and interesting from a Love fan's point of view: how the band obviously honed his songs and made them poppier / accentuated the hooks. Sadly, what we have here is the raw material later to be made great by the other musicians/arrangers, and on his own, Bryan sounds a bit like a low-rent Tim Buckley.

This was surprising to me, as his songs on the Love LPs are among my favourites, but like I say, without the band he flails around with stretched out overlong song structures and melodramatic crescendos.

However 'ifyoubelievein' is worth getting solely for 'barber john', a song rejected from the Forever Changes sessions, where you can see past the convoluted folk singer delivery to moments of jocular greatness.
