THE UK TOP 40 PREDICTION LEAGUE - anyone interested?

So, anyway, had this idea just before lunch - would it not be a nice thing to do a little sort of weekly prediction league thing for the new entries into the UK Top 40? Each week, ten singles that get released on the Monday get selected, then the participants predict where/if they will enter the chart on the following Sunday, with points being awarded for how close they get to it. Perhaps do a sort of bonus ball type thing for predicting the number one, or, possibly a better idea, a random number in the 40, like 26, or 7, or 35 or something. Maybe have a little prize at the end or something like that (I still have my impossibly small Interpol t-shirt)...

Anyone interested? I'd suggest we start it on the 7th, because that week's new releases will be an utter bloodbath...

i pretty much do this already ;) tho i really feel like i should be trying to avoid the chart and chart-related banter more and more...but we know thats never going to happen so count me in.

Shouldn't have put the title in capitals, should I...

I'm up for this too...should be cool. It'll be interesting to see how good/bad I am at predicting other countries' taste.

Sounds good. People from the UK can be blase about their chart, but it's about the only chart worth watching and discussing.

I like this idea very much. Is the Ladytron single out next week? I am KEEN that it sneaks them into the top 40 for the first time ever.

Jay-Z and Beyonce will hit top ten...

uh, Ladytron got into the top 40 with 'Seventeen' i thought. i dont think 'Evil' will do as well (tho it does have a video unlike 'Blue Jeans')

i will play!

I think Seventeen only got to number 68, theoretically they are at that cheery point where each single does bit-better-than-last-one despite coming from already-released album. Blue Jeans missed the top 40 by a WHISKER (3 places), although their website has revisionistically decided that this counts as a top 40 placing.

i was sure 'Seventeen' made the 30s. it had a video that got a reasonable amount of play on MTV (tho obv. not The Box which does seem to have far greater influence then MTV on chart positions). how 'Blue Jeans' could perform better is quite a conundrum.

I think that they had 'distribution issues' with Seventeen, or something. Their profile is kind of on-the-up at the moment, so this may account for Blue Jeans doing so much better though I was surprised it got as high as it did. Evil is out on 2CDs and THA KIDZ (me) will all be seduced by the strikingly original marketing genius behind this bold and pioneering idea.

And the Oops Oh My! cover is on it which makes it an irresistable thing really.
