By now, especially after this seemingly endless 50 Cent/Murder Inc. business, the dis record is pretty played out, except as an aspiring rapper career-booster....But, I started think about pre-rap era dis records and thought of these:

John Lennon: "How Do You Sleep?" (aimed at Sir Paul)

John Fogerty: "Zanz Kant Danz" (aimed at old record company pres)

Guns N Roses: "Get In The Ring" (okay, not from pre-rap era, but they are a rock group and the song names names of people Axl has beef with)

"Ballad of a Thin Man" (maybe)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 26 June 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

oops, I think Dylan's Positively 4th Street is a jab at whoever was the editor of Sing Out!, a folk mag that went after Bob for going electric at Newport....

(One of my friends swears that until recently he thought the last line of "Positively 4th Street" was "You'd know what a dragon is to see you.")

Anyway...
"You're So Vain," obviously.

The Sex Pistols, "New York" (responded to by Johnny Thunders' "London Boys" -- it was like some punk rock Eastside-Westside beef!)

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 June 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"A Simple Desultory Phillipic" by Simon and Garfunkel seems to semi-dis the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but the attack on Bob Dylan seems very pointed and bitter.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 26 June 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the genre of reggae to thread
