The band, not the city.

Specifically, the new album "Chicoutimi". Well, it's really an EP, with a collection of their vinyl remixes of "Boo Boo" songs and a bonus hardcore techno remix of "Kamloops".

But these three new songs are absolutely amazing. Mark seems to be taking a more metronomic/robotic step with these new songs, and they roolz.

Kaboom, as the man says. That "west coast swing" song (note: it actually has nothing to do with west coast swing) is INCREDIBLE. Plus I love seeing them play live. That Matt Datesman! That Nattles!

Flin Flon by NA: I haven't heard the new album. The first one was awesome, the second one not so much. I've seen 'em live once or twice. Their drummer is insane insane insanely good. The end.

I agree with NA re: their albums (I've never seen them live). Maybe I'll check out the new EP. They've just never really excited me.

Has anyone heard any of those recent Mark Robinson solo LPs? I sort of gave up on him awhile back (maybe ill-advisedly).

Matt Datesman great godly drummer. I think there was a time when he was like in 4 very good bands.

The band, not the city.

What, you mean it's not the hyperfuturist metropolis that is Uranium City?

churchill ... now that's a city you can sink your teeth into.

sixteen years pass...

Apparently a Canadian publication was tickled that a band was named after the city Flin Flon, so they interviewed Mark Robinson (in 2017!): https://www.thereminder.ca/news/local-news/novel-name-with-northern-roots-flin-flon-the-band-1.22738761

“I’m a hockey fan and at some point I started to subscribe to The Hockey News. This was pre-internet,” said Robinson. “I learned all the names of the teams in the major junior leagues. To a young American person, some of the names sounded unusual. Like Swift Current and Kamloops, places like that. Flin Flon stuck out as an interesting name. It just sounded so unusual. When I found out it was named after a science fiction character, that really sold it. We did get billed incorrectly in a few places on tour as ‘Flim Flam’ because people didn’t know,” said Robinson with a peeved sigh.”

“We haven’t officially broken up. I guess we’re on a hiatus,” said Robinson. “We did talk about playing again a couple of years ago,” he said. “Nattles said she hadn’t picked up a bass since 2006 and wasn’t sure if she still knew how to play it.”
