Alas, there seem to be no Haitian music fans here.

There must be some other Boukman or Tabou Combo fans here besides me. If you like afro-pop or even james Brown funk you should like these folks.

So this is the single-sole-1&-only Boukman Eksperyans thread there is on ILM?
Hm. Well.
So did Steve K meet any other ILMers at that Windgate Park gig of 2003?
And wot did all those other Haitian bands sound like?
I don't think I've ever heard any of them -- besides Boukman Eksperyans, whsoe Live at Red Rocks i'mma listening at the mo'. For a first time. I'd say this record is (so far) much more soft-groovy and mellower than I had imagined it'd be.

Saw Boukman numerous times in the 90s; always an incendiary live show. No idea what they're sounding like these days.

I (Steve K) saw Boukman again two years ago and they were still alot of polyrhythmic fun if a bit mellower. http://unif2004.org/WashingtonPost.html

I did not make it up to NY for that 2003 show. I later saw Djakout Mizik, who are more polished but also enjoyable. I've lost touch with the Haitian scene although I'm pretty sure bands keep coming to NY, New Jersey, Miami and DC. Current younger Haitian artists seem to have a more slick r'n'b feel. Beethova Obas merges slick r'n'b with singer/songwriter folks in a manner that I found very dull when I saw him. Tabou Combo used to be great in a James Brown funky kinda way. Not sure if they're still together.

Catching up still on Jonathan Bogart's new-school Haitian diaspora dance music faves from 2025. Bogart's various afro-global 2025 lists have been linked on various ilx threads
