Right now, I am liking this end-of-alternative-rock-era 70s rock sound (not the real deal from the 70s, I have most of that already). What else is there like these two Royal Trux albums? I'm not into the earlier noise albums by RX. I remember a lot of bands were getting a somehwat authentic bluesy-70s sound, but I forgot most of them (Acetone comes to mind).
Before this phase, I was in brief hippy music phase (which I'll get back to shortly: Phish, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Grateful Dead)
... and a black metal phase (which I will also get back to shortly: Venom, Coroner, Celtic Frost, Burzum's Filosofem [only one I got]).
I'm also into pop-rock in a major way lately, listening to stuff like Jude, The Katies, Wilco, Fountains of Wayne and the new free sampler I got from Astralwerks (wow, this label changed for the better!).
And, stoner/acid rock: Helios Creed, Monster Magnet, Roky Erickson, Secret Machines., Spirit's "Dr. Sardonicus"... and, yeah, Royal Trux would fit in here, too. "Thank You" has a drum part at the end that almost remind me of a Nektar album.
I'd love some suggestions on all these styles (anything in bold). For instance, someone recently said Bathory was like an acid nightmare or something on par with Coroner or Celtic Frest. That reminded me of Helios Creed + Black Metal -- two styles I'm digging right now! Which Bathory Album(s) are good?
Also, anyone heard any of these new Astralwerks artists? This stuff is great. Well-produced, druggish and yet radio-friendly upbeat mostly anglophile rock.

1. end-of-alternative 70s rock sound 2. hippy music 3. black metal 4. pop-rock 5. stoner/acid rock Anything that combines all 5 is a great thing (and I'm sure there are many suggestions!)

OK, let's roll out the canon:
Emperor A Decade Of Emperial Wrath (2CD best-of, you can't go wrong here)Darkthrone Transilvanian Hunger (harsh, repetitive and completely brilliant)Burzum Hvis Lyset Tar OssImmortal Battles In The North (or basically any album, they're worth getting for the rediculous cover pics alone)Bathory The Return (in their lo-fi black metal phase)Bathory Hammerheart (in their epic viking metal phase)Enslaved Vikingligr VeldiMayhem De Mysteriis Dom SathanasSamael Ceremony Of Opposites
and some recent ones:
Summoning Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your FameAbsu TaraMegiddo The Devil And The WhoreImpiety Skullfucking Armageddon
Burzum-style slower, drone-like bands:
Forgotten Woods Baklengs Mot Stupet (their 3 albums in one 3CD package)Manes Under Ein Blodraud MaaneAbysmal The Pillorian Age
If you need any help in finding these, I can point you to a few reliable European distros (or some US ones if you live there), just ask.

No, I figured any band that names themself after a Black Sabbath album has to suck. I will look into them. Thanks!
Well, get Royal Trux's "Sweet Sixteen," of course
Is this better than Accelerator or the next one? I read Trouser Press' synopsis of the RTX career and the author made it sort of seem like Sweet Sixteen was a failure. Yes? No?
Siegbran, thanks for that mighty list. I'll definitely pick up that Bathory suggestion for starters and MAY-BE the Mayhem, but the list is a great start for me to look into further. I am curious about Forgotten Woods and Emperor. See, the thing is I bought a Mayhem album and it made me feel insane-like. It wasn't fun Satanic music. It was like they were trying to recruit me into their thing, you know? I like Satanic music it when it's, like, not an interpersonal experience, if you know what I mean. Scary shit, though, which is cool.
